OK, the Disney catalogue releases are coming thick and fast, but It's not often we get discussion about Disney's live action films around here so I thought we could kick up some threads where we could discuss which of the remaining films you most want to see released! I have not included titles on the poll that are not yet available but have been announced for a future release, such as Johnny Tremain/The Shaggy Dog. Also I decided to go with the DVDs not available in the US now, even though some have been available in the past or in different countries.

I've started with the 50s as the only 2 live action films from the 40s that are as yet unreleased are Song of the South and So Dear to My Heart, which I expect will be on everyone's lists! Or a least they ought to be .

I'll add the other decades later.

Well anyway, the films from the 50s certainly seem to be a rarity as Disney probably feels they won't have as much marketability, it is also the decade that excites me most. Walt was still cutting his teeth in live action, and a lot of the films from the 50s had a 'British' feel because Walt had to spend money made in Britain during the war in Britain, he was not allowed to remove it from the country, hence the reason why he went and filmed in Britian.

So which do you most want and why?
Feel free to give your opinions on the films if you've seen them!

Well I have never seen any of the above film, so we are on to a good start!

The True Life Adventures really excite me. however I went for "Perri". This film is somewhat in the same vein as the TLAs, but was marketed as a "True Life Fantasy". Based upon the book by Felix Salten, who also wrote "Bambi" this film really appeals to me although I have never seen it. But I think I would probably get all of the above titles.

I have never seen any of these either, but the Secrets of Life one sounds interesting. Does anyone know what it's about? The title sounds like it might be one of those educational films they show you in school during health class.

I haven't seen any of these either, but <i>The Littlest Outlaw</i> sounds like a winner! The True Life Adventure films should be interesting too. <i>The Shaggy Dog</i> (not listed) is certainly my most anticipated unreleased Disney film from the '50s, though.

It is one of the 6 True Life Adventure films. You may get some insight from the links below, IMDB and an amazon review of the VHS.

I remember really liking the Sword and the Rose when I saw it 20 years ago.

At first I was shocked at how I could have left this off the list but my shcok was only a precursor to somewthing worse! After consulting my master list (that I created in Word one day when board) which lists every dismey film ever! It was not there, meaning I missed it when I compiled the list!

If anyone wants me I'll be hanging my head in shame!

I have seen all of them and also have them all in my collection.
I go with PERRI wich is absoutely my favorite among them, followed by the True Life Adventures Features.

Wth the exception of the true-life adventures, I have seen almost all of these films. The swash-bucklers (Story of Robin Hood, Sword and the Rose, Rob Roy the Highland Rogue) are especially good. The one that I have been hoping for the most to come out on DVD is the fine little pioneer western drama: Westward Ho the Wagons. It was photographed in CinemaScope (2.35:1) and has never been released that way on TV or video. I am so hoping for a 16X9 enhanced widescreen version someday!

Just shows how much I dont know lol I have never heard of any of these movies but the light in the Forest defintley sparks my attention. Is there a site or something where I can get a small summary of all these movies? I think it would be really neat to see what they are all about.

As usual <a href="www.imdb.com">IMDB</a> would be a good place to start. Also you could check <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redir ... >Amazon</a> to look at past VHS releases and see what users may have thought!

Also if you have Old Yeller or 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea there will be some clips in the Disney Studio Album.

I voted for Westward Ho! The Wagons. I've never seen it, but it stars Fess Parker, Sebastian Cabot, David Stollery (Marty from 'Spin & Marty') and some of the 1950s Mouseketeers.

Over Spring Break, I went to a privately-owned video rental store (as opposed to Hollywood Video, Blockbuster, Family Video), and searched for old releases of So Dear to My Heart and Dr. Syn.

Dr. Syn was not in the house, but I also found Johnny Tremain and some of the others mentioned in this poll list. (The rentals of SDTMH and JT were my first viewings of these movies ... and I really liked them!). I may try to watch other selections when I get the chance.

I saw some snippets of TLA in the past. I'm interested in those, too.

Bring on all of these works by Walt!

ALSO, I thought about starting a new topic yesterday, but THIS poll topic fits right in:

In some of the special edition DVDs, Walt's intros are included. I suggest we call Disney Video and request that they include corresponding Wonderful World of Color intros to all of there catalog releases -- much like the trailers we hope they include. I know, the trailers and any extras we hope for fail to materialize more often than not, but let the calling begin! It may be too late for Johnny Tremain (August 2005), but I'll try for that, too.

Walt's intros are truly a highlight for me.
