Nine Old Men Statue Idea

Here is an idea I thought up over the past weekend. Here it goes:

After Ollie passes away (God forbid), statues should be erected in DisneyWorld/Disneyland to commemorate the nine old men. Each statue will be of one of the nine old men and the characters they animated (for example, the Ward Kimball statue will have him surrounded by the Three Caballeros, the Cheshire Cat, Jiminy Cricket, and so on). Each statue will also include their names, the dates they were born and the dates when they died, a quote that they said, and beside them, monitors that show scenes or clips of their work.

I think that these statues should be erected so people can learn about their great work and how they important they were to Walt.

So, what do you think? :?

It would be nice:

The nine old, maybe on a central part of the park or at the entrance, with 2 or 3 of their most important characters with him and in a golden plaquee below a little about their lives.

Also they could sell al the info in a fantastic brand new DVD, with images and interviews with people who get to know them

Yeah, like the nine old men book by John Canemaker made into a movie, good idea, but I think that each animator should be surrounded by more than just 3, a lot more, maybe about 5-10, because each character is a different size, but not all of them, only the important ones, and ones souly animated by themselves (Ex: Since Baloo in the Jungle Book was equally animated by both Frank and Ollie, that wouldn't count, but Shere Khan from the same film is Milt Kahl's character, same for Frank Thomas with Kaa or Ollie Johnston for Bagheera)

Could be, but I think it would b more "Nice to watch" only 3 or 4 characters--maybe one on his hand if it´s small and the other 2 standing with him--or lay down on the case of Bambi--

Yeah, I guess so, but when you think about it, a couple may not be enough. Maybe if it was overdone, yeah, but in some cases, like for John Lounsbery or Les Clark, there might be an exception since there are only a few characters they animated that are widely known.

Here's what I think should be done for each statue:

Ward Kimball-Jiminy Cricket, Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, March Hare, Crows from Dumbo, Lucifer, Jaq and Gus from Cinderella and the Three Caballeros(Donald, Jose and Panchito)

Eric Larson-Friend Owl, Peg from Lady and the Tramp, Aracuan Bird, Forest Animals from Snow White, Figaro

and etc..... Not too much, not too little.

First of all I want to say that it sounds like a great idea, and nothing would be more apropriate.

The only thing I am worried about is all the little characters. To put in more then 2-3 would be overdoing it and lots of them are not that recogniseble to everyone. (Ward did not criate Donald, so that would be inapropriate to assosiate him with Donald like that).

But there must be some sort of information with every statue stating their story and also all their key characters.

I've never been to any of the "Disneylands" and I won't express an opinion about details. But I think the principal idea is good - the nine old men deserve all the recognition they can get.

This nine old men statue idea sounds pretty neat.
All the suggestions brought up sound great!
My favorite suggestion in this whole idea would have to be the characters they animated surrounding their statue.

Very Cool :thumb:

An excellent idea for the Animation Courtyard at the Disney Studios parks in Paris and in Orlando.

:)

Not sure about the TV monitors, but I think if you took each of the nine old men, and then had them holding hands with their most famous character, it would work out very well. :)

Gee, I didn't know that I would be getting this many thank you's. I would like to say thanks to everyone who contributed their ideas & opinions on this post & I also think that we should get a petition made up & we should send it to Disney.

Also, I also think that this idea will also be good for the Walt Disney Classics Collection, & be made into ceramic masterpieces for all to enjoy, how about that?

Is there any ceramic masterpieces of any real people at all (like Walt himself)?

At Disney World's Magic Kingdom there is one of Walt & Mickey standing in front of the castle, and there is one of Roy Disney sitting on a bench by the flagpole near the park's entrance. None others that I know of.

I think the Nine Old Men statues w/ some of their characters is a fantastic idea.

oh, I know that. I have seen the Walt and Mickey statue lots of times in pictures but FantasiaMan sugested it to be a ceramic masterpieces in the Walt Disney Classics Collection, and that was what I was asking about. Not a statue at Disney Land og Disney World.
