Hi everybody,
I'm having a little trouble with disc 1 of The Incredibles, and I was just wondering if anybody else had a problem with it or if it is just me. Every time I put disc 1 in my Apex AD-1225, I get the FBI warnings and then the disc freezes. No matter what I do, the disc will not load up. I'm on my second copy and both have done the same thing. Disc 2 works fine.

I'm just hoping that somebody has a suggestion that I can try to get this disc to play. I want to watch the movie now!

Thanks,
oxonce

I have not had the same problem with The Incredibles but recently I discovered my Tomorrowland disc 2 does that! It freezes actually when you hit the first episode and in one of the menu screens it either freezes up or the whole menu shifts diagonally down. IT's hard to explain but I have a faulty DVD like yours it seems.

If your disc 2 works fine it may be the DVD itself. Have the reciept? Might have to take it back by the sounds of it and get a new one. That'll be a lot eaier than phoning Disney for a replacement disc, which is what I will probably have to do.

If you're on your second copy and it's still doing that, it sounds like a player issue. Have you had any issues with other discs? The alternative is that there's a bad batch at your store, but I'd think that less likely on such a big title.

It was freezing up on my laptop (stupid thing)
but it worked find on the DVD player. :)

I think orestes. and Luke are right though...it might be your DVD player?

Do your other DVDs do that?

I don't think it's his DVD player because my copy does something similar. It doesn't freeze but my DVD player just automatically skips the FBI warnings and goes straight ot the sneak peeks. It quickly shows some weird colors and it wants to freeze but it doesn't. I think it has to do something with Disc 1, or maybe DVD players hate the movie just like I do.....

Well, I found a fix for the POS Apex AD-1225. I tried my Disc 1 in a different player and it worked just fine, so I knew that it had to be something with the Apex. This is what I did to get it to work.

When you put the disc in, these words appear on the TV screen in order...Reading...DVD...Play. When "Play" appears on the screen, I pressed Stop on my remote and then pressed Play. "Play" then appeared again on my TV screen and all of a sudden the THX logo started playing, followed by the movie. I was floored!. From there you can press the Menu button and everything works normally as it should.

I figured this out on my own. I even called Apex and they told me that Disney DVDs don't play on that player and there is nothing that I can do to get it to work. Shows how much they know. I should call them back and give them the fix for their own player.

So, tomorrow, I'm buying a new player and the Apex is going to get an "Office Space" style beat-down. Bye-bye Apex.

On mine everytime I put in the movie and if there is writing (Ex. PASSWORD or a sign) there is a subtitle in a different language but not when they speak and when I hit the DISPLAY or SUBTITLE button it says SUBTITLES: OFF, then I just pressed the SUBTITLE button until it went through all the languages and back to OFF and it stopped doing that. It's not a big problem but it's weird. Does anyone know what's going on?

I, for one, have had nothing but bad luck with any APEX products. I refuse to buy any of their electronics any more. They are cheaply made, and don't play certain discs in my collection and they are just not dependable products. I would suggest that you get a new DVD player, and get a name brand like Toshiba, Sony, Magnavox, or something like that.

I used to really love my old APEX player. The only real problem I ever had with that player is that if I used the SEARCH/MODE/FIND button/feature to get y'know- like 00:47:23 or something like that- doing that sometimes frequently or sometimes only once, meant that I was going to have the special features skip and pause automatically/unintentionally while I'm trying to watch the making of Rosemary's Baby or the retrospective interviews for Carrie. I think you know what I mean. Right? I would be watching the special features and it would just freeze/skip/pause, but I could watch for 1 minute without it happening again and again...

Anyway. My new player, Emerson, is a dream! Works perfectly.

I realize you've already followed up on this, but that was your problem from the start. Apex is possibly the worst DVD player on the market.

I think it was after Christmas 2 years ago when I was in the Returns line at Walmart, and up ahead of me there were not just one but two different customers returning Apex DVD players. The lady directly in front of me had the worst case -- a Blockbuster rental had gotten stuck in her Apex, and they had to bust the thing open to retrieve her disc. I stayed around long enough to see them get it out -- I was secretly hoping the disc would get broken in the process, and Walmart would have to reimburse the lady the cost of replacing her Blockbuster rental as well.
