I saw this movie last week at a preview screening, and i can honestly say that it was a really good Disney coming of age film. There was really great figure skating footage and choreography in it, Michelle Trachtenberg did great(very likeable), Kim Cattrell and Joan Cusack gave very good performances aswell. I recommend the movie to anyone who enjoys this kind of disney fare (princess diaries etc.)...

I really want to see this movie. I know that the first 40 or so drafts for the screenplay were written by The Princess Diaries author, Meg Cabot, who is my favorite author as well. I'll hopefully be seeing it friday or saturday. Ice Skating is not something you see too much these days in movies, and besides, I like Trevor Blumas.

I'm going crazy to see this movie. Meg Cabot is my favorite author, and I love watching figure skating.

i agree, i think it looks so pretty. I love these kinda movies, but Michelle Trachtenberg doesn't really do all the complicated skating does she? That's always bugged me

Wow I did not know that the princess Diaries Author had a part in writing for this movie. I mean just from the preview I wanted to see but now knowing that it totaly makes me want to see it even more maybe I can convince the b/f to take me to see it this weekend.

I had to rain on the parade in here, but I thought it looked like a dumb movie...Then again, I'm not in their target demographic am I?

Well i personally dont agree with "target demographics"...im a 18 year old,male cartooning major who likes movies that are quirky,inspiring,funny, classic...im a big fan of anything that has that "Disney feel"

Now that the movies is out, I thought I could bump this thread, for those who have seen it and would like to comment on it.

I saw it yesterday and thought it was really good. It wasn't funny and didn't have any dumb, corny, sick jokes, like you'd expect to see in a 'tween' movie.
It was cute and sweet and makes you realize how important it is to live your dreams, rather than the dream someone else wants you to live. It's definatly one of those mother-daughter movies, and my mom saw it with me and she liked it.
Only thing that was weird, I thought, was Casey's skating outfit at the end. Wasn't that a bit skimpy in the chest area? I know it has skin-colored fabric over it, but still..that much skin shown in a disney movie? I know that's how outfits are sometimes, but....(the Movie Mom mentioned it and I sorta agree)
I thought Michelle did a good job as Casey and they do teach you how important school is, and how there are some things you learn that you can incorporate into everyday life to help advance yourself.
The casting was great, espically Trevor Blumas as Teddy. Too bad i'll never meet him, cause he's my age and a total hottie!!!! He was a cutie in the tv series, "Little Men' but now he's even cuter!
Kim Catrell seemed like the perfect skating mom. She had the personality traits of someone down to a T. Plus, talking about what some of the other parents do to give their daughter all, like taking out a second mortgage, working two jobs, etc. It happens not only in skating, but in other sports as well, like Gymnastics.
This movie was very realistic and very well-written, IMO.

The movie came out and it did an underwhelming 7 million, I guess all those kiddies are still out watching robots and pacifier(good movie might i add)...anyway disney had a very subdued marketing campaign for this film...it will undoubtedly make money on DVD...everything does...hopefully it will be enough to warrant a sequel, me and all my friends want to see casey in the professional biz.

I went and saw this today with my mom and I absolutley loved it. It might not the flashy movie to some but the messages this movie conveys are ones that should be heard every day. Respect, being honest, working hard ,following your dreams ,good relationships between child and pearent, Going to College. This is defintley one of my favorites all characters were done very well. Michelle actually did a better job than I thought she would and I must say I am extremley impressed. For those who are hestiant to see it I highly recommended it take the whole family. It looks like a chick flick and it could pass for one but its good for the whole family, young and old. Okay I am done rambaling .

I thougth Ice Princess was going to be a huge Chick Flick.

Trust me it's not like Princess Diaries. It's a lot more serious, and has a lot more story to it.

Yeah, it's not really a chick flick. It may seem like it, but there are more issues in this movie than i've seen in disney movies in the past. This has a story and a purpose.
What is the shown in the trailer, half of it isn't even in the movie, and they do a bad job of telling you what it's about.
Trust me. It's a family movie as well because for once, it's a movie that shows the honest truth.

It looks like a teenage chick flick with the usual "girls going against all the odds" and coming out on top and her mother is proud of her. Where have I heard that one before.

I think this movie was made perfectly for 10 year old girls, no offense to the guys that loved it

a) the girl does not come out on top
b) the mom was against her skating from the start, she wanted the girl to go to college and even at the end, still wasn't entierly sure about it

Let's stop making pre-conceptions about the movie and just see if you were right.

Cool!

I still won't see it though.

This movie is the best movie I have seen at this point in 2005. The characters feel real, the story is engaging, and the skating is wonderful to watch. Only a couple of minor quibbles keep me from giving this movie 5 stars instead of 4.
