there was a sequence in pocahontas that was shown on a network television exhibition of the wonderful world of disney's issue of the film that had pocahontas and john smith singing the song, "if i never knew you". i haven't bought the dvd yet, because it doesn't have this sequence on it. does anyone know if disney plans to release it, or if it is out on a disc somehwere else? i really want to see it again. is the gold collection dvd even worth getting?

This sequence is on the R2 PAL release:
http://www.blackstar.co.uk/video/item/7000000065091
Special Features:
The making of Pocahontas (30 mins). Character design featurette. The music of Pocahontas featurette. Storyboard to film comparison. Deleted sequence. 'If I Never Knew' - deleted song. Multi language reel - 'Colors of the Wind' sung in several different languages. Follow your Heart - a destination trivia game
The "Making Of" is a television special, the "Character Design Featurette" is Glen Keane giving a presentation at CalArts(?) and drawing the Pocahontas character, describing how she differs from other Disney female character designs (It looks like this is taken from poor quality Videotape). Some of the "If I Never Knew" deleted sequence is shown in storyboards only (if I remember correctly).
As for the film, the R2 edition doesn't seem to suffer from the film grain problem the R1 disc suffers from (I understand it is worse on Pocahontas than their Limited Eidition Little Mermaid). Grain is present on the R2 release, but it is not really distracting.
As for is it worth buying the Gold Edition - it's up to you. Disney certainly have more features in their Vault. It's possible a "Special Edition" will be released in the future. But who knows when?
They did mention this sequence on the Treasure Planet DVD

On one of the bonus features on treasure planet Roy E. Disney mentioed this sequence so I would say there is a posibility can't rember what the feature was called but it was the one hosted by Roy E. Disney. I thought it was a good little documentry.

Im not sure but it may be the scene that is on my Laserdisc boxset for Pocahontas its exclusive to the set. Part of it is complete part is rough animation and some may be storyboards. Its been a while since i have viewd it.
There was an explanantion as to why the scene was cut form the movie but it eludes me at the moment.
Hope this helps

if i never knew you was suppose to be sung when pocahontas goes to see john smith when he got captured inside the tent that's where the scene and song took place. but was cut cause of children in the test audience getting bored

The spanish edition of Pocahontas includes the whole deleted sequence "If I Never Knew You" , fully animated and even painted in some parts. It's fantastic, it sohuld be included in the movie.
It also includes the story reel of another song, "In the Middle of the River".

I would be astonished if Disney did not include this scene as an extra feature on the double disc special edition -- Masterpiece Edition? -- due out January 27. I remember watching that TV broadcast just to see that scene and loved it to death. I really hope it is included.
No, I wouldn't buy the Gold DVD unless you must have the movie now. If you can, hang in there a few more months and get the special edition.

Pretty much. It makes no sense to get it if you haven't already.

And what about The Little Mermaid? 2099Net says "it's even worse than The Little Mermaid"...
By the way, I went through this site and it is absolutely awesome! Very informative and clarified lot's of things for me. So thumbs up for anyone involved
