BVHE UK refuses to release Platinum films! :(

I found this article by a journalist named Joel Becket in the Newspaper this morning and it's just saddening.

Buena Vista Home Entertainment UK, distributor of classic Disney films such as Bambi, Alice in Wonderland and Pocahontas, have decided to stop re-releasing DVDs of some of their classic films on video and DVD. The American counterpart line of Disney's most beloved classics brought successful re-releases of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin and Bambi, yet a UK survey showed that the line would have no use in Britain due to the fact that many people already have a VHS copy of Disney's films and find that purchasing a DVD of a film they already own on video is a waste of money. For this reason, after the special edition re-release of Cinderella later this year, Disney will no longer release special edition DVDs of previously released films, meaning that Lady and the Tramp, The Little Mermaid, 101 Dalmatians and The Jungle Book will not be hitting shelves like in America. Jane Reader, of BVHE UK says "It's very sad that 101 Dalmatians and the like will not be released in England, but from a business prospective, it would be best not to release these DVDs at all due to the fact that few will buy them, thus resulting in mass spare copies not being bought."

Well, it wouldn't surprise me if BVHE UK did do this.

Well I doubt BVHE would do this at all, I mean look at Bambi! that's been released before and it went straight to Number 1 in the sales charts! Proof that people do want them.
Also an even better example would be Mary Poppins, It's been released on VHS about 3 times and on DVD twice already! Yet the 2 disc SE looks as though it will enter the charts in the top five tomorrow!

Any news on how the "Pocahontas" dvd's sales are going? Its not even like theres been an advert for it.

You don't expect them to have time to prepeare an advert do you? It only came out 10 months after their original release projections!
That said, I did a rare wonder round town yesterday, and didn't see any Pocahontas discs!
Oh and we all know Disney UK refuses to release Platinum titles. They call them Collectors or Special Editions!

Well it's 6 in the children's sales charts at Woolworths, and 303 in Amazon's sales rank, although I have seen "adverts" for it on Milkshake in between programmes there haven't been any proper ones on TV and there weren't even any trailers on the DVDs either about its coming, which REALLY surprised me, but then again there weren't any for Mary Poppins either!
I think it will probably make the top 40, but I think it will be a slow seller but they will shift, like Aladdin and Mulan.
Also don't forget that the R2 one disc was pretty packed in terms of bonus features and that i disc is still available ina lot of places and this will only really appeal to the collectors.

It sounds like someone couldn't wait to post this before April Fool's Day.
While I was reading it I believed it until the survey part. At that moment I thought that either this is a fake article that you took as real or someone had a seedy survey done. I couldn't believe that BVHE would do something like this either.

Don't worry. That line was just a cynical comment on how BVHE UK generally are; crap.

Ha ha good joke
Oh and i didnt even know Pochahontas was out, no promo in stores about it and i havent seen one advert. Comapred to Mary Poppins theres in store advertising and i see the advert all the time on tv.....
I dont get it why are we getting all these releases at once? Bambi, Pochahontas, Mary Poppins, Alice, Dumbo, Incredibles all within like 5/6 weeks its odd....

Even though this would have no effect towards me as I do not live in the UK I still decided to take a look and stopped beleiving it when it got to the part I quoted because the Platinum releases are doing very well and Bambi sure sold alot of copies on it's first day, and they also wouldn't stop releasing them just cause they are already on VHS.

I actually believed this until I got to 'gotcha' at the bottom, and the reason I believed it is, first, because it sounds plausible - BVHE UK are just rubbish - and second, I can believe they'd say something like this as an excuse to shelve the platinum line just to start all over again when the next format comes in...
