VHS seems pretty much dead now. You can barely buy them anymore. Soon blu-ray and HD-DVD will come knocking at the door tryung to eliminate DVD.

i'm not sure videos will ever be extinct...i mean they still make records...but i'm sure down the road it'll get much harder to find a place that sells videos or vcr's. but then there will also be a time when dvd's will be pushed to the "back" for new things, and the trend just goes on...

since i don't own many videos in the first place, probably like two, this doesn't really affect me much. i can say the same for dvd's. i mean, i have 2 brothers who buy almost every dvd that i would buy for myself. one bro buys like every dvd he encounters., ok i'm exaggerating, but his collection is huge. and the other bro buys every disney dvd there is plus the harry potter ones...so, i mean, unless i really really really love the dvd, i just borrow my brother's dvds and watch them. ... i might have to change this when i actually completely move out of my parents' house.

I would say that DVDs began overrunning VHS starting from a while ago.

But now with all this Blu-ray/HD-DVD crap coming up... seems so soon! v.v

7 hours 35 minutes and 7 1/2 seconds. :P :P

but seriously, the minute those shiny lil' discs started coming out, VHS didn't have a chance. Also I predict BluRay and HDDVD will be dead by the time I'm in college(can you say Beta and LaserDisc of the 21st century? ).

I agree wiith you. I don't think VHS will last much longer, and now that the new two formats are coming..well, it'll be history.

Most places don't have VHS anymore. It seems to have disappeared fast. You know what I haven't noticed disappearing? Cassette tapes. I remember when stores had a small section of them but then I simply forgot about them and now there is only one place I can find new (as in not used and not newly released) cassettes. They are hidden in the back with the 10 VHS tapes they have. :P

I have a friend who will not convert to DVD. She is happy to keep her VHS movies and she's the only person I still know who buys VHS.

Definitely exaggerating, Jane! I only buy every dvd I encounter if it's a good low price. Very rarely will I splurge and buy something at the SRP.

Anyways, while DVD seems to take over VHS, it'll still be here, like records. Maybe cause it's a comfort for people, like how a lot of people still keep their old records in the attic or closet. Now, they'll just keep their old vhs's in the attic or closet.

I would say, probably the second year that DVD'S were out. VHS is really a rare thing to find now. Everywhere you go, it is all DVD this or DVD that. I have only seen a few stores that still carry DVD. Even if the VHS no longer exists to buy, you can still watch them by getting a DVD/VHS player. But, in all seriousness, I say maybe 2-3 years at most before everything will be DVD :D

I actually don't think DVD is going anywhere soon. Some people will buy HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, and we will keep our DVDs. I actually admit, however, that when Mermaid comes out I will probably buy the Blu-Ray discs, even if I don't have a player- for collective purposes of course.

I really don't think is going anywhere fast either but HD-DVD and blu-ray will try and get rid of it. I just hope some studios don't stop making DVDs when there is a clear cut winner if there is one. I doubt that would happen but some of the anime companies dropped VHS pretty quick I believe.

DVDs have already taken over. VHS is extinct, for all practical purposes.

However, I would be willing to say that your videotapes will have degraded to the point of unwatchibility before you would have trouble finding a working VHS player...

I feel the same way. Whenever you walk into any video stores around here all you see for the most is DVDs...
