I know it's not disney but does anyone know if the Land Before Time will be getting a Special Edition release any time soon. This is such a good movie, worthy of the Platinum title, if it were disney.
Also there are some other movies, like the Secret of N.I.H.M and an American Tail which are also worthy of Special Edition Treatment. Whether you like them or not, you have to admit that they are classics.

I wrote to Don Bluieth & Gary Goldman via their website once and they sent me a personal reply (how cool is that?) Well, anyway, to make a long story short, the answer is no to all of those. That's up to the companies who released the films (in the case of Land Before Time and An American Tail, Universa and MGM for NIMHl), although Blueth & Goldman would be pleased if it did.

Land Before Time, The: Anniversary Edition
From its lush, dreamlike opening sequence to its epic landscapes, Don Bluth's THE LAND BEFORE TIME is an enchanting prehistoric adventure. Littlefoot (Gabriel Damon), a little bracheosaurus, finds himself lost and on his own while he and his family journey to the lush feeding grounds of the Great Valley. Littlefoot, along with several baby dinosaur pals, must set out across barren, dangerous terrain to reach the Great Valley, encountering perils and adventures along the way. THE LAND BEFORE TIME is a triumph in animation, using traditional methods to create colorfully detailed scenes and character movement. The film serves as an excellent introduction for small children to the fascinating world of dinosaurs.
"...These dinosaurs stand just this side of the baby Dumbo....So authentically geared to the thinking of children that it should charm adults as well..."

It's really a shame about Land Before Time... but then, as much as I don't like all these Disney sequels, at least that they don't have 9 sequels with each one having a new voice for the lead character (trust me, I've seen them all while babysitting!!!:oops:)

Sorry don't know where I was going with that... Well the other movies might be crap, or atleast a little immature for the more mature audiences, but the first one was great! and reall deserves the works... I think Land Before Time is worthy of platinum status....
If nothing else the things that it should include are:
#1 WIDESCREEN
2. Making of Documentary
3. Commentary
````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
And some stuff that would be nice are...
Extensive Galleries
LBT Legacy (featurette)
"Hold on Together" Music Video
Original Aspect Ratio.
At least a DVD is coming out I say, I want to get a anniversary version of "An American Tale". Its easily the best Don Bluth film and it gets NOTHING.
1) It's spelled An American TAIL and is supposed to be a pun since it deals with a mouse.
2) No, there are not plans for a DVD of An American Tail at this time. I emailed Don Blueth and Gary Goldman about this and several other things last year and they personally responded via email. At the time they "spoke" with me, they said there were not plans for new DVD versions of Land Before Time or Secret of NIMH. (I had asked about OAR releases of these two.) They did say they would like to be involved and were more than willing to do a commentary track, but the choice to do a special edition of any of their films lies with the studio where that film was produced and they have no input.
3) I too am very annoyed at Universal for treating their animation like this. The only pan and scan DVD I've bought thus far into my DVD collecting is Balto, which they gave a barebones release in February 2002, which was cropped to match the cheapquel "Wolf Quest." (I also bought Wolf Quest against my better jugement, and it wasn't half bad for a cheapquel, but of course nowhere near as good as the first one.)
1) Pardon moi!!! I own the first three, so you'd think that I'd know.
2)
That's really sad about the DVDs!
3) I've never bought a DVD P&S in my life, and I NEVER will, I refuse to lower myself to that standard. I also saw Wolf Quest... wasn't too bad but not my extenstion of the ending!
When I first got a DVD player, I made a mental list of movies that I absolutely must own on DVD. The Disney classics were/are all on that list, Brave Little Toaster is (I'll be getting that tomorrow maybe, now that it's out), the Pixar films were there, and a lot of others, too. One of those was Balto.
This was long before I saw the light about widescreen, but when I did I still vowed to myself that I would try to complete that list even if those select movies were P&S only, and to that I held by buying Balto. That said, of course I would double dip in an instant to get a proper widescreen transfer, even if it was non-anamorphic and just as bare as the current DVD. Still, I really do want to see BALTO Special Edition with a newly remastered 16x9 anamorphic transfer, director's commentary, making of doccumentary, and the trailer in proper 16x9 OAR as well as still gallaries and whatever else they want to throw on there.
