Napoleon Dynamite...be honest...who loved this movie??

I have to say the first time I wactched this I just didn't like it. Now, that may have something to do with the fact that I was forced to watch it by my team of 7th grade girls basketball players, as we had 3 hours between tourney games one Saturday.

After watching it I started thinking about it a bit more and decided I needed to give it another chance w/out a bunch of 12-13 year-olds around. So I watched it again and absolutely loved it. It's probably because I am the KING of dry humor, but I really like the style and substance of this film. I know it's really a love-it-or-hate-it type flick, though.

So who else...c'mon...you can admit it.
And Pedro is the MAN!

"It's pretty much the best film of the year" 8)

Loved it! My 3 and 1/2 year old daughter loves it too! She's always asking to watch "Napolean Dymanite". This movie is way better than 90% of the crap that comes out of Hollywood. If only there were more quality films by people who still are in touch with reality instead of from the Hollywood crowd who's "reality" is 7 or 8-figure paycheck.

It's pretty much the best movie ever made. I agree with you, Indy, that on the first viewing, it doesn't seem that great. It's a bit slow and takes some getting used to. But on repeat viewings (and deep reflections), one really gathers an appreciation for this movie and Napoleon's illegal ninja moves from the government.

Dude, this movie is sweeet! :D
The first time I watched it...it wasn't as great.
Then, as I kept watching it over and over again, it got super funny!
I have the DVD (yea, I still don't think its a waster of money! :P) and the deleted scenes are HELLA FUNNY and even the marriage of Kip and Lafawnda (seen at the very end of the movie after the credits)! rotfl

ahhh, this movie's great! 8)

I didn't see this movie because I sensed it was an independent flick striving to be more than what an independent flick is supposed to me. To many messages for one screenplay is what I've heard from people who've see seen it. I'm not going to pass a judgement as this is one of the few films I managed to successfully avoid last year, but considering I agree with Entertainment Weekly so much before I even read the magazine, and seeing that Liza Shwartbaum named it one of the worst films of 2004, I will stay clear from it. 8)

I am one of the minority.

I absolutely hated this movie.

The whole movie was just so idiotic.

Napoleon Dynamite is pretty much the funniest movie ever made. The humor of it lies in the stupidity and sheer backward-ness of the characters, so those who don't like it for that reason aren't getting the point of the movie! It also grows on you with repeat viewings. True, it's not a life-changing film of epic proportions, but do all movies need to be so in order to be good?

I was extremely disappointed and was somewhat disturbed in the point of the movie seemed to be to preach intolerance of others. Thumbs way down from me.

I have not seen the move, so I will not rate it. The thing I do dislike about it is all the hype. Why is everyone saying it is so great now. The movie came out last August. Where was everyone saying it was so great then. Why didn't people go see this in movie theatres if it was so great. The movie only mustered 44 million dollars, which finished below Fat Albert, Home on the Range, and the Exorcist. I do not see the hype.

It played in just 1,027 theaters at widest and for a film with a production budget of $400,000, $44 million is a phenomenal gross. More people have discovered it on home video, and it's been among the top ten sellers just about every week since it's been released. The DVD is widely available, as opposed to its theatrical distribution which was always limited and may have been non-existent in many parts of the nation.

I'd love to hear how it preaches intolerance of others, though. From what movie did you get that, Mr. Toad?

I have not seen it but I have heard many quotes (friends and a cd) and seen many clips (TV, the net, trailers) and I must say I fined it to be complete tripe! :x
And furthermore I find it astonishing that anyone does enjoy this idiotic and low “FILM”! :x :x :x

sorry that I went a tad crazy there.

*sigh* I didn't exactly hate Napoleon Dynamite but I didn't like it either. It is amusing but not funny at all, at least for me. I guess you can say I like at least a little character development, or substance. :D

Plus the fact that everyone totally overkilled it bothers me...
