BURBANK, Calif., February 16, 2005 – At last the beloved film BEACHES, from director Gary Marshall
(“Raising Helen,” “Pretty Woman”), will be available to own in a superb SPECIAL EDITION DVD on April 26.
Starring Bette Midler (“The First Wives Club,” “The Stepford Wives”) and Barbara Hershey (“Riding The Bullet”),
this new edition of BEACHES will include new audio commentary with director Gary Marshall; never before seen
Beaches bloopers; music video “Wind Beneath My Wings” performed by Bette Midler; Mayim Bialik’s Beaches
memories; Barbara Hershey’s original screen test for the film; the film’s original Theatrical trailer; and a segment
from the American Film Institute special program “100 Songs with Bette Midler.” The BEACHES SPECIAL
EDITION DVD will be available for $19.99 (S.R.P.) from Touchstone Home Entertainment.

Arriving in time for Mother’s Day, BEACHES glows with warmth, humor, and tenderness, as this is one friendship
you'll enjoy every minute of. Brassy C.C. Bloom (Bette Midler) and classy Hillary Whitney (Barbara Hershey) met
on a beach when they were very young. Through good times and bad times, through broken marriages and budding
careers, they always had each other. And together, they would face their greatest challenge ... as only best friends
could. Hershey is splendid, and Midler will astound you all over again with her comedic and musical talents in this
critically acclaimed box office smash.

The screenplay for BEACHES is by Mary Agnes Donoghue. Based on the book by Iris Rainer Dart. Directed by
Garry Marshall.

The excellent cast of BEACHES includes John Heard (“White Chicks”), the late Spalding Gray (“Kate and
Leopold”), Lainie Kazan (“My Big Fat Greek Wedding”), James Read (“Legally Blonde”) and Mayim Bialik (TV’s
“Blossom”).

That movie sucked. Bette Midler cant act, nor can she sing. How does she keep coming back again and again?

  I read your post to my fiance and she said you're a jerk!

Seriously, women love Bette Midler and that movie. They do. They really, really do.

Must be a chick flick, I was appalled by how bad it was.

But lets go to rotten tomatoes for more opinions. 40%. While I guess that is not terrible(especially compared to Man of the House's 13%.

I did like a couple of reviews like the San Fransisco Exampiners headline - "Simply Horrible" and another one "Vile Trash". So I at least had some company.

The only movie I ever liked her in was Ruthless People where I thought she was half decent.

I haven't seen Ruthless People but would like to. I've never disliked her in anything I've seen which includes:

Big Business
The First Wives Club
Drowning Mona
Beaches
Hocus Pocus
That Old Feeling
The Stepford Wives
Fantasia 2000
Oliver & Company
Isn't She Great
Jackie's Back

...and also her very funny and unfortunately cancelled sitcom, "Bette." I also really like her voice, though only some of her music (great voice but not always my style).

This movie can put me to sleep. But my mom loves it and when I told her it was coming out she begged me to get it for Mother's Day. Another $20 wasted on a romdramedy...

That's your opinion, but it is the opinion of MANY people that Beaches is a good film. It is touching, and I LOVED every minute of it. I'm not a huge Bette Midler fan, but I thought she did a great job in this film. I can't wait to pick up this DVD!

Some of you can be downright mean!

Oh, by the way, it's not just a chick flick. Men can enjoy it, just as well. The problem with most men is that they are afraid to accept their feelings if it doesn't involve being macho, being a jerk, or sex. So, if a film has emotion to it, men just say, "It sucks", or, "It's a chick flick". Thank God I'm not one of those men. :D

It is Chick-Flick! ;)
But there's nothing wrong with that...I can stand Bette Midler! :)
However, since this DVD comes out the same week as BLADE TRINITY (or the BOXSET), TMNT Season 2, and Lemony Snicket...I might not buy it the week it comes out! :(
but i'll buy it...because i feel i'll need a good cry after watching those action movies**

Who cares if it is a "chick flick"? It's funny that so many people are quick to label a movie as a "chick flick", but they watch them.

Dirty Dancing, Beaches, First Wives Club, My Best Friends Wedding, 50 First Dates, etc. could ALL be considered "chick flicks", but there sure are a heck of alot of guys who watch them. :P

HECK YEAH! :D My boyfriend watches Chick-Flick! [Ok, maybe it's by force that he watches them because I watch Action/Suspense (because of him)...but he actually liked some of the Chick flick movies!]

GASP! You haven't seen her first movie, The Rose?! :( That one's amazing too!

I've seen a lot of Bette's movies, and I loved just about all of them. I definitely want to get the Beaches Special Edition. I'm still waiting for a remastered special edition of The Rose. The print on the DVD that's out now is appalling! :x And Hocus Pocus needs to be released in a special edition as well. LOVE that movie.

Hmm, I liked Beaches, and I'm a guy, and I HATE HATE HATE THE TERM CHICK FLICK. There are a lot of romantic comedies that can be enjoyed by everyone and should not be placed in the lowly category of "chick flick". God, that term is so sexist, practically saying only women and gay men can enjoy a nice tearjerker or two. Not every guy is a fan of car chases, explosions, and big burly men fighting and proving how manly they are. And not every girl is a fan of weepy melodramatic slop that involve crying throughout 85% of the film.

DIE "CHICK FLICK" DIE!!!

I love your avatar! BREE! :D "Chick flick" is a nice phrase for girls to say...but my boyfriend calls it "romance movie" :P

Hmm, I've never seen this film. I may take a look at it as a blind buy, but I'll probably opt for the Region 2 version (which will hopefully come, as BVHE UK can peform cardinal sins by not releasing certain DVDs :headshake:)

And don't worry Escapay, I ignore the term "chick flick" all the time too. This may sound snooty, but the phrase "chick flick" sounds rather vulgar. Oh, and I lobsterlove that new, flashy avatar of Bree!
