I know a while ago someone mentioned an alternative to DVD Afficianado and guzzlefish. Guzzlefish is once again not updating. As for DVD Afficianado I have a couple of problems, dont like the layout with the TV seasons taking up all that room and not being ameriacan i dont want a big flag flying in my face.

I like DVD Aficionado the best. Some of the others have more features but I found with others like Guzzlefish its missing too many titles I have to add. I haven't been satisfied with any as much as DVD Aficionado.

My problems are like yours. I don't mind the TV taking up so much room though but it is a pain to load for some I imagine. I think the site has an ugly design too and I don't like the American flag in the corner either. :P

I tried DVD InterVocative but that site just annoyed me for some reason. It has the option to display them in the order I bought them and I can't remember so I am sticking with DVD Aficionado.

How long does it take to update. Or how regularly maybe is the right question. I notice Wonder Woman Season 2 which came out this week is not there.

All the others that were missing on Guzzlefish are there. They all seem to be TV shows for some reason. I guess the reason would be that movies are announced farther in advance so would be in earlier updates.

I tried atleast two titles I have on the DVDSpot site and they never had 'em. I may just stick to DVD Aficionado. :)

ahhh, okay. :)
my explanation on DVD SPOT...
they have listings for BOTH Region 1 and Region 2.
say, for example, we add BAMBI to the list on DVDSpot right?

so then you check Bambi and you can choose to add it to either OWNED, WATCHED, ORDERED, or WISHLIST. (similar to DVD AFICIONADO without the Watched part tho!)

So I put in BAMBI as OWNED and then it'll take you to a screen that you fill out additional info (I think you can leave it blank...but i choose not to because it's a COLLECTION.)

the additional info is:
Date you bought it.
Source you bought it from.
Price it was.
Custom Information- the additional information you would put it.
Hide from the public- basically, the public can view your collection to see whether or not you have it.

and you even have the choice of rating the movie and writing your review.

ALSO, like DVD aficionado, they give you the prices of the movie on the INternet.

I think, Mr. Toad, that you would like DVDSPOT.COM.
it's also organized. I don't like it because i'd have to fill in that information (I never like to leave stuff blank ) so I choose DVDaficionado.
I think they have every DVD there...but I'm not sure. I've only listed 20% of my DVD Collection and my hands started hurting from typing. ;)

That information is important for Insurance purposes though, especially if you do not have an extra rider for your collection. Thats why its there and its optional. I think I would like DVDspot.

And thanks for the explanation, very useful.

post 800 :)

The Raccoons vol 1

and Corner Gas

I'm thinking about using that site as well as DVD Aficionado since it seems to have less missing titles than what Guzzlefish has.

Orestes - I am thinking both of those maybe Canadian only releases. Thats why they might not be there. Amazon.com sells neither.

Yeah they are Canadian shows and I think Canada released only but I wonder if I can add them to their database? I'm not exploring the site right now but next time I buy some DVDs I'll be interested in exploring it some more.

No problem! :)
Actually, it was dvdjunkie who told UD members about DVDSpot. (well, at least I heard of it from him!8)
*he was the one that got DVDs stolen but received a check in the amount of DVDs...

I knew somebody had recommended a third site and tried to search for it but could not.

Thanks again.

Well the deal is sealed. Just talked to a guzzlefish moderator and they dont think there will ever be another update. Too bad, they had a good thing.
