Its funny you bring this up, since I am on an email list for this movie that is run through the company that is going to distribute it. I always enjoyed the film, the mouse charcters resemble Mickey, there's a lot of music and its a pretty funky story there. Basically, its a post-apocalyptic world where everyone is a mouse, cat or dog mutant. There's a rock band, and a big bad villain who wants to kidnap the lead singer to use in a demon summoning ritual. ...yup!

The main girl character has the same voice actress as Sailor Moon's Lita/Sailor Jupiter. It seems she has a special voice that Mok (sp?) needs to open up another dimension. It takes place in "Nuke-York," (a version of New York City in which humans have long since died off) and as Mearj says, it is populated by animal mutants instead.

There's a lot of cool stuff there. I believe it was given an R rating. I saw a heavily edited version of the film on late-night TNT about ten years ago. Yeah, it kinda has a Heavy Metal vibe going on. My memory of it is a bit hazy, but I've been dying to see the uncut version of the film ever since.

Though "Rock and Rule" was a pretty decent film, I find that "American Pop" was a much better and cohesive movie to watch. The music and story were combined very well to make a great motion picture and, of course, Ralph Bakshi's animation process didn't hurt it at all.

"Rock and Rule" will find a place in my collection, right close to "American Pop" and "Wizards".

Bit of trivia on this movie....the singing voice for the female character is provided by Debbie Harry from Blondie.[/i]

Yeah, there is going to be a regular version and a 2 disc limited edition collector set that has both the American version and Canadian versions of the film. They are putting a lot of work into the set and it'll be released pretty soon.

Rock & Rule (1983).

Anyone here seen this underrated 1983 animated sci-fi gem? it's set in the future where humanity has changed into mutated animals, a rock singer named Mok is after a beautiful singer's voice for he must use to to summon a powerful demon from another dimension in order to take over the world.

It's very entertaining and has a fantastic soundtrack by Earth Wind and Fire, Cheap Trick, Debroah Harry, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop and well animated. If you like animation, i recommend this one!

I love those animated features from around this time, like Heavy Metal, American Pop, and Rock n Rule! They're wild and a little trippy, and have great soundtracks! It's cool to see animated films with more adult subject matter that aren't Anime! I will always hold Disney above any other animation, but I love this stuff! Rock n Rule was really interesting! I still don't know if I find the lead female attractive. Hard to get over her being an evolved, hairless rat or something! Very cool film though!

Rock and Rule question...

Can anyone tell me if they truly did release a 2-disc Rock and Rule DVD here in the U.S.? I remember it on Amazon.com, but it is out of print already (I didn't think it came out THAT long ago), and on Ebay, where you can usually find anything that's ever been sold, I have only seen PAL 2-disc versions. So, did they make an NTSC 2-disc version? I want this film, but I hate to buy a single disc version if a 2-disc might turn up on Ebay at some point, but I don't want a PAL version. I'm unsure what to do about this one...

Yes, they've released an NTSC two-disc set here in the US. I know for sure cuz I picked it up at a Media Play when it was newly released. ;)

Damn, I miss that store. :(
