I recently purchased Shark Tale and Black Hole and both of them skip and stick over and over and over again. I don't think it is the discs since it is both of them, so does anyone know how to clean a DVD player?

If it doesn't work, I'll take both movies back (although Shark Tale, I threw away the receipt).

How do you clean a DVD player? Get a sponge, dip it in soapy water and then scrub the invention with it, Miss Poco!

Seriously though, I think you should get a cleaning DVD disc. We have these in England and they clean the DVD heads perfectly. Plus, the one I've encountered played a groovy tune to test the sound. Great for parties, and you'll have ultra-clean DVD heads!

Does it matter what kind of DVD player you have?
Because I read a forum discussing all sorts of DVD Players that had the problem... I'm p.m. you the link and hope it helps..

I got your PM. Lots of reading!!!! Anyway, my DVD player is almost 4 years now and I haven't cleaned it yet, so I think that is the problem. I guess Radio Shack will have a DVD cleaner?

Guy talk and electronics. I don't know much about it, but he does. (I only use it to play DVDs, I don't fix! )

actually you know what, he has friends that work @ Radio Shack (that's why he said that) and I bet that if you go in and ask someone, they'll tell you what to do and help you. (or if you're too lazy, you can call! )

would a dvd cleaner work in a ps 2 since its also a dvd player

sounds like your motor is dying. Does it happen to be a panasonic DVD player?

A DVD cleaner probably won't help, unless the DVD player is in a very dusty environment. If you think about it, a disc spins so fast that dust doesn't really have a chance to settle on the laser. The more you use a cleaner, the more likey it is that the little brushes on the disc will start to "push" the laser to a side.

The best thing to do, is determine whether or not it is in fact the discs. Try them on a different player first. If they are defective, they are going to do the same thing on every player. If they work fine on a different player, then it wouldn't be the discs and would leave your player as the culprit. Unplug the power cord for about 15-20 minutes. That will give the player a nice reset and the discs will get a fresh read the next time you put them in. Many times that helps. If not, get a new player. The average life of a DVD player is about 3 years, and you are past that mark.

If you determine the discs to be fine maybe your DVD player is just out of alignment and a trip to a knowledgable repair shop might be able to tweak it back to factory specs but of course then repair charges come into the pic, etc

It sounds like it is my DVD player. I have watched so many movies on it, I think it has now messed up. I cleaned it, but the movie still skips, although not where it was before I cleaned it. Looks like I will be buying a new DVD player =( ACK! This and a new house....
