FEB. 25 | When the Bambi Platinum Edition streets on March 1, it also will mark the launch of a new Buena Vista Home Entertainment promotional tool.
Disney DVD Insider, a 24-page insert, represents the first issue of a quarterly magazine the studio will use to hype Disney fare and drive consumers to the DisneyDVD.com site.
"The goal is to have a vehicle which provides consumers with consistent updates on key initiatives, not just from Buena Vista Home Entertainment but from the Walt Disney Company as a whole," said Lori MacPherson, VP brand marketing and product management.
Accordingly, the premiere issue features a calendar of future video releases, information on upcoming theatricals including Chicken Little and miscellaneous content such as tips for families on how to establish a weekly Disney Movie Night.
MacPherson said the plan is to put the magazine into 5 million DVDs a year.
"Each issue will probably just be in one tentpole release," she said. The current issue will likely be placed only in Bambi.
The "mini-zine" also will promote the existing DisneyDVD.com Web site, which targets both children and parents with title-specific areas such as ones for Bambi and The Incredibles as well as games and a searchable database of Disney movies.
"We've got kids playing the games, but we've really got a lot of parents using it to look for information on the releases," MacPherson said. "You get the starter information in the mini-zine, and then you can go online and play games and search for more detailed information."
The next step in the evolution of Disney DVD Insider will be to create its own online equivalent sometime this year, MacPherson explained. Most likely housed within the DisneyDVD Web site, the new site will extend the content of the magazine by providing longer interviews and more activities.
