If You Purchase Most of Your DVDs from Best Buy ...

Here's a GREAT way to help out Luke and this site.

He just got an affiliate agreement with BestBuy.com, which means we ALL can support this site while buying the DVDs (Disney and everything else) we would be picking up anyway. All you need to do is click on the BestBuy.com AFILLIATE LINK off of the front page and select the DVD(s) you want and arrange for an in-store pickup. You'll need to use your credit/debit card to do so, but the card is NOT charged...it's what they use to pull/hold your movies and they require that you then use it to make your purchase when you get to the store.

Like I said, if you make a lot of your purchase at Best Buy this is a no-brainer way for you to help the site. I probably pick-up 75% of my DVDs there and will continue to do so...only now I'll start using the afilliate link before heading out to the store.

This is an unsolicited thread I chose to start, as Luke knows nothing about it until now. The site is still new enough that we all need to do what we can to help Luke keep the site going. It's obvious how much we all love Disney and this site and I'm sure we can agree that we'd all do as much as we could to help Luke out.

I'll step off of my soap box now (isn't there a smiley for that?), but Luke I hope you make this a stickey so as to constantly remind folks that consistently make purchases at Best Buy B&Ms.

I do buy some of my DVD's from Best Buy. I have a question though. If you order through Best Buy link and arrange for in the store pick-up, how long do you have to wait until you pick it up? Some of the DVD's are right on the shelf.

Good question, Poco.
I believe they hold it no longer than 48 hours but I'm probably wrong...I'll do some checking and see if I can get a definite answer.

I do remember that it's not as simple or quick as placing the hold order and rushing out to the store. Once you complete the "order" the store you've designated has to physically place your DVD(s) at the front for you. An e-mail will follow telling you the order is ready for you to pick up at that store. It's been a while since I've done this, but I remember it was no longer than 24 hours for me to get the e-mail ... which you then print out and take with you to the customer service counter.

Sounds like a good idea. I may try it to see. I can order it in the morning while I am at work and on the way home pick it up. that at least gives them 7 hours to actually take it off shelf and put my name on it.

Another question, does Luke get points or money if we buy non-disney movies?

Hey, cool thread. :)

I've done in-store pickup from Best Buy a few times, so I'll try an answer your questions. In general, they'll send you an "available for pick-up" notice within a few hours, certainly within a day.

I don't think you can select "store pick-up" on pre-orders, so if you're going to be doing something like Tuesday's releases - you could order them Tuesday morning and then they'd probably be ready for pick-up later in the day. It's important to use the actual physical CC that you used to order with. They have to scan it when you go there, so Webcertificates are no go.

The e-mail that tells you it's available for pick-up gives you something to print out, which you bring to the counter, not the checkout counters, the Service counter (not sure what it's called), but the area where they do holiday returns, I know.

That said, some less major titles aren't immediately available for store pick-up. For instance, I noticed Tower of Terror isn't. Of course, I've also heard it's not in the actual stores. So, that could explain it. And shipping is free, so if it's something that might not be in the stores anyway, and you're losing the "immediately in my hands" factor, it'll save you a trip to the store to have it shipped and it doesn't cost a hill of beans. (Whatever that means.)

To answer poco's question, yeah I'd get an associate's fee for anything you buy, at least any media product like movies or CDs. I don't know how much I'd get on like a fridge, or anything, but I don't think that's an issue here. ;)

It's only 3%, which is kind of low as far as affiliate fees go, but if you'd like to support the site and it's not inconvenient for you to go this route, that'd be great and I'd really appreciate. They've done a lot of changes with the website lately, so maybe give them a shot, let us know how pain-free (or painful) a process it is now, and if it's not convenient, forget it and move on.

There are other ways to support the site - the banners on the bottom of the forum for instance. You click and a coin appears. Like finding loose change. ;) Of course, don't abuse the system - only click if there's an ad that interests you, yadda, yadda. They have surveillance and whatnot anyway.

And of course, there are other affiliate links that you can use, if you use them - the DMC, Art.com, all the different Amazons, Buy, etc., etc.

It's really great for you guys to offer to help cover costs and efforts. Right now, the site requires as much time and overseeing as it would if there were 10x as many as visitors - except in that case, there'd be reimbursement and stuff.

For now, the loyal few are all there is keeping this site going. I know it's not curing cancer and solving world hunger, but I think the site and the forum do serve a purpose and if you agree and wish to help support it, well, let me stop before I get all teary-eyed. I think I've rambled on for several threads worth.

What bears repeating is this: thank you all for supporting the site! :up:

:cry: this is so touching luke! now i'm getting tear-eyed! i will use bestbuy.com to do instore pick since i usually buy at least 5-10 dvds a month there depending on their prices. this is a great idea! plus we all love UltimateDisney and our webmaster! i want casablanca! :)

The in-store pickup sounds GREAT. I buy at least half of my DVD's from Best Buy, so this feature will be very convenient for everyone-me because I won't have to go ramaging through the endless shelves of DVD's looking for the one I want; my parents because they'll only have to come in, swipe their card, pay, and get out; and of course Luke because he'll gain a little something from my purchase. :D

I'm not positive, but I suspect that you might be able to select In-Store pickup for Tuesday's titles beginning with the new week, once the circular takes into effect? Maybe. At least, you'd certainly be able to do that with that week's specials.

--Order Submitted at 1:30PM CST.

I'll post back when I get my confirmation e-mail that tells me it's ready for in-store pickup.

Wow, not bad at all. Make sure to bring the printout of the e-mail. At least you used to have to, probably still do.

Sounds pretty easy, as long as you don't have to wait long when you get there, which I doubt you will.

Our Best Buy is never really crowded (non Black Fridays of course) so it'll be a breeze. I'll walk in w/ that e-mail and be out of there in less than 5 minutes guaranteed.

It's a no-brainer option for me to purchase my DVDs this way now.

It's not showing up in today's report, though maybe it will take some time. Still, I'd expect the order to show up, if not the revenue.

YOu didn't by any chance visit BestBuy.com first and then within the same browser session went to this site and clicked on the links? Cause that wouldn't qualify.

Nope...I clicked directly from the front page here. And I picked up the Disc at about 1:30 this afternoon.
