You'd better hurry if you want Lion King, as it went into the vault at the beginning of the year. The ones you see in stores are the remaining stock of the stores, so if you want one, get it fast. Aladdin will be available for a while longer, as it came out in October, you're looking at least the rest of the year for that title. Mulan is a big question mark for me though. Don't delay too long though, as you'll be kicking yourself for having to pay through the roof prices for them as supplies dwindle (as I did when I had to pay almost $50 for Sleeping Beauty recently)

I can see Mulan going OOP in April-ish, perhaps? Just a guess, though- who knows; it could be around for a year.

Disney is no longer distributing any of The Lion King titles, which just means that they won't print or ship any more copies, even if a retailer requests them. The Lion King probably won't be around much longer. Its sequels may stay on the shelves slightly longer, but if you want them, I'd get them sooner than later.

Usually it's 7-10 years in the vault.

Platinums are in the vault for 7 years now. It's a very frustrating way of doing things because people like me, who weren't collecting in the early years of DVD (2000,2001) are left out in the cold. I missed out on 2 waves of Treasures because of this (However, I have managed to get my hands on the 2 out of the first wave that I really wanted, Mickey Mouse In Living Colour, and Silly Symphonies (The 2nd disc is scratched to hell, but I'm just going to call up Disney and do the disk replacement program)) and Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (Which I am in the process of getting right now).

Generally, they only do the discontinuations once a year, in late January. That's probably when <i>Aladdin</i> and <i>Bambi</i> will disappear, and others to be announced.

For a list of all the Out-of-Print Disney DVDs, check here:

Well, I dunno about that. As per the revised Platinum schedule, all Platinums from Lion King forward were due to be available for two years. (As we can see from TLK having been discontinued recently it's actulally more like one and a half, but, still.)

Aladdin is definately due to leave next January (2006), but I could actulally see them not discontinuing it and leaving it in print indefinately. This is a possibility because we know that Aladdin has severely underperformed (as per that list of top sellers in 2004 you posted a few weeks ago, the #17 DVD of last year, Sienfeld Seasons 1&2, sold 2.3 million copies, and Aladdin was not even on that list, which means it sold less.) So, I could definately see Disney keeping Aladdin in print an extra year or two in an effort to recoup more money and/or move more units. The Platinum schedule is determined inn part, and the movies are taken in and out of print, according to the demand that Disney precieves exsist for the title. Since Aladdin seems to have fallen off the public's radar, an "Aladdin is going out of print!" campign could either drive up last-minute sales from people who didn't realize that it was IN print in the first place, OR, as I'm expecting more likely, an Aladdin OOP campign at this stage would probably fall on deaf ears, much as an OOP campign for something like Atlantis or Treasure Planet would not help much in sales, either. We've seen lately that they are trying to figure out what to do with the Platinum line as evidenced by Aladdin's weak sales numbers, so I think that it might be in Disney's best intrests to just leave Aladdin in print and readily available, at least for a little while longer than they normally would. Of course, wheather this will occur to them or not is another issue entirely....

Assuming that for most titles, possibly Aladdin forgiving, they actulally do stick with the 2-year-availability, 7-year-OOP policy previously established when the acceleration of the line was announced, then Bambi will stay in print for 1.5-2 years and go OOP later. So, while Aladdin is by proceedure due next year, Bambi will be sticking around until January 2007 if all goes as previously established. It and Cinderella will probably be going OOP together then.
