Predict 2-Disc Releases We Don't Know Yet (Animated Classics

We all know the Platinums will be coming for awhile and what they will be. My question is, which "B" 2-Disc releases will come after the ones we already know about?
Current 2-Disc sets (inc. OOP)
Snow White
Alice in Wonderland
Sleeping Beauty
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
The Lion King
Mulan
Tarzan
The Emperor's New Groove
Atlantis
Brother Bear
2-Disc Sets We Know Are Coming (Platinums)
Pinocchio
Fantasia
Bambi
Cinderella
Peter Pan
Lady and the Tramp
101 Dalmatians
The Jungle Book
The Little Mermaid
Fantasia 2000 (?)
2-Disc Sets Widely Expected/Known To Come (Non-Platinums)
Dumbo
Pocahontas
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
Lilo & Stitch
It is with this last list that I am most interested. 2 of those are coming this year, and it's reasonable to expect that 2 will come next year. What will 2007 hold (besides the final 2 installments of the original Platinum line) and beyond?

That's an interesting question. I'm fairly certain we'll see Dumbo and Hunchback SE's next year (it'll be Dumbo's 65th anniversary and Hunchback's 10th). In 2007 I think we'll see Hercules for its 10th anniversary along with something else. I'm having trouble thinking of just what that something else is since I've always considered the Platinums, the 90's films, and Dumbo and Alice to be the only films likely for 2-disc treatment. Perhaps we'll see a 30th anniversary edition for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh?
2006:
Dumbo
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
2007:
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh?
Hercules
Then there's the question of what catalogue live action titles will be coming out as 2-discers. The only films I can see getting that kind of treatment are Treasure Island, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and maybe Pete's Dragon (and an even greater maybe...Song of the South...). Logically, I can see Bedknobs getting released next year (35th anniversary), Pete in 2007 (30th anniversary just like Pooh), and Treasure Island....this year...(55th anniversary). The reason I keep basing these predictions off of anniversaries is because Disney has been having an anniversary fetish lately. The only time we ever see SE's of movies is when a) it's their multiple of 5 anniversary and b) it's to tie in with a remake or sequel (or in the case of The Parent Trap remake: another Disney film with the same star).
Edit: I just now noticed the title had "animated classics" in parenthesis. Feel free to ignore the 2nd paragraph.

I think as 2099net so rightly pointed out, the 2-disc set market is a big one for Disney, and as the amount of unreleased content in their catalogue continues to diminish, we'll likely see a lot of animated classics revisited. Aaron's list hits all the obvious targets, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more added as time passes.

Wow! That sounds good! But how do we know? Has Disney already comfirmed that those will be the next Platinums in the future, or? (Concerning Pinocchio, Fantasia, Peter Pan)
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but will Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs be something else (PE, SE, ME etc.) when it comes out? I'm a little bit confused with all these names and stuff, but it isn't going to released as Platinum Editions again?

I think 3 prime targets for two disc releases are Treasure Planet, The Black Cauldron, The fox and the Hound and Home on the Range.
Treasure Planet did very well in terms of DVD sales and I am sure that next time it is rereleased it will be a two disc, even though 1 disc is incredibly solid! Home on the Range was a very disappointing 1 disc and there is a lot of material concerning the various incarnations that would easily fill 2 discs. The Same applies for TBC and FandtheH there is apparantly lots of material that went on the cutting room floor that could be put on DVD. I also the that The Rescuers Down Under and Oliver and Company stand good chances too!

You also got to consider all the international Disney 2-Dsic set releases that haven't yet been out in the US.
I'm talking here about :
- Lilo & Stitch
- Pocahontas
- Treasure Planet
- Peter Pan
All of which had, in one or several countries, the 2-Disc set treatment.
And, even if we know nothing about release dates in the US for these titles, it is more than probable that they will be released someday.

Well we never really know until they are announced, but Disney has said several times in several places that these have been added to the Platinum roster (along with a possible Sleeping Beauty re-release). Disney sent me a "To-Be-Platinum" list a couple of months ago, though, and it only listed the rest of the original 10. Who knows. Even if they aren't Platinum in name, though, I'm sure they will be in treatment and release schedule.

That's pretty much speculation at this point. When Snow White is re-released it will probably be on Blu-Ray (or a dual release on DVD and Blu-Ray). There's no telling what marketing title Disney will come up for the relaunch of what we currently know as Platinums.
Jordan, L&S and Pocahontas are definitely coming to the US this year and Peter Pan is one of the added Platinums. Our Treasure Planet was scaled back from the 2-Disc to a 1-Disc, so that doesn't necessarily indicate that we'll get a 2-Disc release. I love TP so I would certainly take a 2-Disc, but the 1-Disc is already so good, I'd rather see some other classics get priority.

You may be right there. It's interesting that after Dumbo, Hunchback, and Hercules, none of the remaining classics seem quite as "high-profile" as those that have been released. I think Many Adventures of Pooh, Robin Hood, Rescuers, Aristocats, or The Fox and the Hound seem most likely.

I'm glad you posted it. I surely hope you are right about Pete's and Bedknobs! Like with the ACs, after those two, the remaining live action non-2-Discers don't seem quite as high profile either. Of course, a 2-Disc live action release doesn't have to take the place of an animated classic 2-Disc release. Disney seems to have a mentality that in a given year, they can release: 4 animated classics, 6 DTV sequels, a few DTV premiers, 1 or 2 two-disc live-action classics, 1 wave of Treasures, 2 or 3 waves of TV-on-DVD, and a few batches of single-disc catalogue titles (plus any and all new releases). That was the case in 2004 anyways, and is shaping up to be the same in 2005.

Where is there a 2 disc TP?

He may mean the French set, which isn't really a 2 disc set. The second was the live-action Treasure Island.
Still the French set has the French version of I'm Still Here on it, sung by John Holliday. And it rocks. (I'm not just saying that).
I think all of the non-anthology films will get a 2 disc set, and the anthologies will be released paired up in 2 disc sets, with more supplements. You only have to look at the Disney Archive feature on Bambi so see Disney has the materials.

Yeah that's what I thought he was talking about!

Wasn't Brother Bear a 2-disc SE? anyway
I think 2006 will see Hunchback (10th), Dumbo and perhaps the first of a movie that isn't considered a huge classic, more a semi-classic... like Aristocats or The Great Mouse Detective.
For 2007 we'll see Hercules (10th) and perhaps a 30th anniversary edition of either Rescuers or Winnie The Pooh? Fox and the Hound is in my opinion the most underrated movie of the 80's so that one will hopefully get a special edition in 2008 or sooner.

I'd loove an
Aristocats 2 disc dvd!! That's the classic that I want the most that is sadly not expected for a 2 disc

Even a better 1 disc would be ok...I just didn't want to buy any "gold collection" dvds, but I'd like to own The Aristocats.
(In another thread I accidentally said Oliver and Company...stupid moment for me

.....I have that one...that dvd wasn't too bad...plus it wasn't a gold collection, I think I mistakenly said it was because I meant the Aristocats...oops

)

Sadly, it has yet to be released in the UK and other international countries... Same goes for Alice!

Well, I don't think Brother Bear should be classed as a 2 disc release really. As the international releases have shown, it has very little content over a single disc release other than 2 aspect ratios for the film.
They could easily do a "better" Brother Bear 2 disc release.

Very true, Treasure Planet had loads more content. But BB was still labeled as 2-disc special edition

I think it is an absolutely wonderful movie! incredibly underrated, although a bit more adult than some others no songs or cartoony comic characters. It has it's funny moments but not as much as others. but if you are wondering whether to get it or not, please do and get the CE before it goes out of print. It is quite honestly the best 2 disc set disney has ever released even better than Aladdin IMO!

if you love disney films you'll love it. Although if you are critical it is not by far up to the disney standard. But it is an ok movie for sure. Beautiful visuals. sadly the 2-disc is OOP and If I'm not mistaken the 1-disc has a stupid foolscreen version of the film wich chops of half of the image. I think the 2-disc is still available in the UK though.
Edit: amazon.com still has some in stock. I say you should get it. It has GREAT extras too

if hunchback do get the 2-disc treatment it should include the music video for SOMEDAY and GOD HELP THE OUTCASTS and some previews of DER GLOCKNER VON NOTRE DAME.
hercules on the other hand, should have the belinda carlisle I WONT SAY IM IN LOVE video and boyzone's SHOOTING STAR.
there should b a double pack of SALUDOS AMIGOS and CABALLEROS ala aladdin sequels.
I pray for a Black Cauldron 2-discer.
but i can imagine the other underrated and least popular titles to have more games to lure consumers in order to make eligible for 2-discism.
