<b>The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou</b> is going to arrive on DVD on May 10th, 2005. It will be offered in standard and 2-disc Criterion Collection editions. Extras will include deleted scenes, director commentary, cast and crew interviews, and more. The difference in price appears to be just $3.

I was kind of disappointed by the movie, but it's grown on me in reflection, and all of Wes Anderson's films are done well via multiple viewings. Quite looking forward to this.

I watched the first half of this on the Disney Cruise. Went to a midnight showing and my wife fell asleep(not because it was boring but because she just cant stay up late).

It was one of those ha ha ironic movies as opposed to ha ha funny. Very black humour. I loved Rushmore but much like Luke I am not sure what to think of this one. I think I should have been enjoying it more than I actually did.

I'm looking forward to seeing this. I never got around to seeing it in theatres but then again in 2004 I got to the theatres only once.

What exactly does it take for a movie to be part of the Criterian Collection. I heard that the film has to be super important, artistically and content wise. If that's the case, I think this is definately a bizzare, of-the-wall choice to get a broader audience interested in the line. I really haven't delved into this line because one of the first titles I saw was Armaggedon, and I really don't think that's an "important" film at all. Strange.

Criterion has some crap movies in their collection like the Rock & Armageddon.

A film doesn't have to be ground breaking to be part of the Criterion Collection. Heck, it doesn't even have to be a film, they've done some TV in the past.

Criterion have done films like Fiend without a Face, Fishing with John (TV), Monty Python's Life of Brian, Carnival of Souls etc. All that Criterion want is "important" or "typical" films. So when they did Armageddon, they profiled the making of a typical "popcorn" blockbuster. When they did "Fiend Without A Face" they did a typical 1950's Sci-Fi B-movie.

Ideally, I think Criterion would like to focus on the "critically acclaimed" films only, but its getting harder and harder for them to licence out titles from the Studios.

BTW, Wes Anderson has always insisted his films are licenced out to Criterion, as he is always impressed with their discs.

I think that this film fits right into the style and needs of a Criterion edtion. I loved this film, and can't wait to see what Criterion does with it. I have over 40 Criterion titles in my collection including "Robocop", "Straw Dogs", "The Samurai Trilogy" from Kirosawa, "Monty Python's Life of Brian", "The Long Good Friday", "Diabolique", and "Carnival of Souls".

I also own "Armageddon" on the Criterion set, and that is one of the most diverse sets you will find on DVD. 2-DVD's loaded with extras, and instead of muffling the sound like the regular issue, Criterion did what the theaters did and that was let it be "loud" where it was needed. A lot of the theater patrons complained that the movie was too loud, but when they turned it down you couldn't hear the dialogue. Criterion made sure that the movie was just like the theatrical release as far as sound goes.

I passed on the "Rock" DVD, even though I like the movie, I don't like it enough to spend that kind of money on it.

I like Criterion for what they do, and I am looking forward to getting "Spartacus" on the Criterion label.
