Lady and the Tramp is the next platinum, your opinions?

I just noticed that from the main page and wondered what others thought about it. Personally, I'm happy that it's the next big 2 Disc Special Edition after
Cinderella. I know that some people would have wanted
The Little Mermaid to have come first (myself included), but I'm still extra glad that this is definetely coming in early 2006, as in the very likely event that
Mermaid is being released a few months after this, I'll have all my Top 10 Disney films on DVD!

I want Mermaid! Then again, I want it to be released within the next minute.

I don't really care for the movie but I'll be getting it. In fact, it's nice we get more time to anticipate and fully appreciate The Little Mermaid when it's released!

That means Lady and The Tramp will be the first of the limited issues re-released as Platinum edition. Since I only own Little Mermaid of those previously released limited issues, I couldn't be more happy they decided to release Lady and The Tramp first. Not only is it one of the few classics I'm missing on dvd it is also the only disney animated classic I never owned in any format. Havent seen it in about 5 years. can't wait.

is it just me or is there a pattern now? is it just coincidence that aladin and cinderella are human related films and they came/are coming out in october. Then Bambi and Lady and the Tramp which are both animal related films are being released in march. if this is true... that will mean The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty will be released in the following octobers, and The Jungle Book, 101 Dalmations, and Fantasia will be released in the following marchs! Maybe now they have a solid schedule!!!

Yeah, I agree slightly. At this moment in time, the
Cinderella extras seem like those on
The Lion King, which I think is a bit worrying. Hopefully they
will port over some, if not all, of the laserdisc material for
Cinderella like they did for
Sleeping Beauty.
Anyway, this is a
Lady and the Tramp thread, not a
Cinderella one, so what are we talking about?

Lady and the Tramp Platinum Edition

I don't even own a vhs copy of The Lady and the Tramp isn't that pathetic.
I've been hoping for a dvd release for a long time. I missed the limited edition one that came out before. Although I do prefer a Platinum Edition over a regular version. Cheers.

This is a little bit off-topic, but how do you know Sleeping Beauty will be released a Platinum Edition? It would be awesome (because it's one of my favourite movies), but is it already decided?
I'm actually looking more forward to Lady and the Tramp than The Little Mermaid. LT was my first full length animated Disney film I've ever seen and I don't remember much of it either (it was Italian dub by the way).

I really hope that they will include both the cinemascope version and the rare academy version, only released once before (on laserdisc in 1998).

thogh this is the Lady and the Tramp thread, i was hoping for The Little Mermaid next on the Platinum line.
i actually just got Lady and the Tramp on DVD from eBay like 3 weeks ago, this was my first time ever seeing this movie (i hadn't seen it before) and it was an O.K. movie for me, could have been longer, counting the credits this movie was only 1hr 15min, kind of short for me.
either way, i will still be waiting for the release of this movie and i will go buy it on release day.

I'm glad this is going to be released as PE!
I don't want to buy the Limited Issue yet because that'd just be a waste of money for me.
so i'll wait for the platinum edition!
I can wait for it...L&T isn't my favorite
favorite Disney movie.

Personally, I'm very happy with the decision. Even though I want The Little Mermaid first, I just can't see it as a Spring title. Disney's always released their biggest films in the fall (yes, Bambi's big, but Cinderella is undoubtedly bigger) so getting TLM in March would just feel odd. I like the theory about animal-centered films coming in the Spring and human-centered ones in the fall.
Now as for those Cinderella specs...::heads over to Cinderella DVD thread::

Personally, I'm really disappointed in this announcement. I was really hoping that
The Little Mermaid would be the next PE.
Lady And The Tramp is perhaps one of my least favorite Disney movies and thus I'm not looking forward to the DVD release at all, and will pass it over. The only PEs left that I'm really looking forward to are
The Little Mermaid,
The Jungle Book, and
Peter Pan
I would add
Sleeping Beauty to that list but I just shelled out a lot of money (almost $50 Canadian) for the previous 2-disc set, and I'm very happy with it, thus no need to upgrade.
In regards to
Fantasia, the only part I really enjoyed is
The Sorcerors Apprentice, which I have on
Walt Disney Treasures: Mickey Mouse In Living Colour Volume 2, so no need for that one
The other ones, well I didn't really like them that much, and thus won't buy them.
Please don't ostracize me! lol

You'll notice that all of the early Disney movies have a running time of about an hour fifteen. The running time got longer as time went on, but many of the 30's, 40's. 50's, and 60's Disney animated features had that running time

....

...

No
Little Mermaid? Shucks! I guess it's October, here we come. Anyways- I am looking forward to this release. I have always liked
Lady and the Tramp, but it is not
The Little Mermaid...
**P.S. By, the way, do we know that
LatT is the next by the back of the
Bambi insert? Like does it say 'The next Platinum releases are
Cinderella in October, and
Lady and the Tramp in March 2006' like it does in the other DVDs?
**P.P.S.
PLEASE LET THE
CINDERELLA BONUS FEATURES BE GOOD...

they seem to be let downs. "Room Makeover"?!?!

I was fully expecting Lady and the Tramp to be the Spring release for 2006. TLM is too big a title for Disney to not cash in with for holiday sales and such. Like most others here, I'd love to have Mermaid sooner, but I think they made a good decision by keeping it in the Fall.

I'm happy Lady and the Tramp is getting the next spot in the lineup, but I'm anticipating Fantasia the most!

Yea I agree....I'm satisfied with the decision....thats the way I predicted it was going to be. Like DisneyFan 2000 said, more anticipation time for The Little Mermaid!

I'm happy with this selection.

Actually, I really don't care - just as long as it's a PLATINUM EDITION! Lady & The Tramp is definately one of my favorite titles, and even though I love The Little Mermaid, I can hold off for a Platinum Edition that will be reviwed by Alan Menken. Love his tunes and his creative abilities!

But after Cinderella that's it, right? ALL the Disney animated features will then be available on dvd. That's a first in human history.
I do hope for a better Mermaid dvd...sounds like most of you don't have the old one. I'd say the sound/video quality is sub-par at best; however, dvd was pretty much in its infancy when that came out. They can do better now. And hopefully they can get in there and add a new song or scene. Now wouldn't that be nice? A better Jungle Book is also in order...needs a little restoration work, I'd say. So does 101 Dalmations, Robin Hood, Rescuers...hoo boy I could go on and on. Even Black Cauldron didn't look as good as it could have. Well that's up to Disney if they really want to seriously restore any of those films. Maybe we should just leave them be.
**I don't care if it's a Lady and Tramp thread! I've got somethin' to say, and I'm sayin' it!

Lady And The Tramp is one of my favorite Disney classics! I have the Limited Issue, and while the sound and picture aren't bad, I'm sure that with the Platinum Edition, it will be much improved. Plus, it will be nice to have the extra features (hopefully they will be insightful, and retrospective).
I have the Limited Issue's of The Little Mermaid, 101 Dalmatians, and The Jungle Book, as well, but I will be picking up the Platinum Editions of these films. I am extremely excited to get The Little Mermaid, as that release is the most lackluster of the Limited Issue's that I have. The picture and sound for that release is not very good, so I can't wait to get the Platinum Edition. Of course, I hope that the extra features will be more along the lines of what was done for the Snow White Platinum Edition, rather than The Lion King Platinum Edition.
