I've watched it all (except most of the "Walts Story Meeting") and I think its a fine set. Its not as packed as Snow White or Aladdin were but the stuff that is included it grade A.
I loved the making of, it went as in depth as a 'making of' should go in my opinion (I hate it when it goes all butt kissey but I also hate it when it goes really deep about why film has changed the world). The deleted scene's were nice as was the trailer. I liked the fact that you could look at the picture galleries as a slide show (I'm terribly lazy) and the explainations that accompanied some images where good as well.
As for the movie itself, I think the picture quality and sound were both good. I liked the fact they didn't make the movie look to bright like they did to Beauty and the Beast. I was disapointed that the RKO titles were missing (I asume lost) and I don't feel that they needed to attache new titles of the people that restored the movie at the end (couldn't they have been a feature on disc 1).
Overall I think this ranks as the third best Platinum title after Snow White and then Aladdin.

To quote myself from the press release:
I wrote:As the DVD has been released in England two weeks earlier than in the US, I have the DVD on my hands and can comment on it in case you wanted to know about it before Luke posts his review.
The video of the movie is, as cliched as it sounds, really good. There were little signs of grain, dust etc and the colours looked vivid and fresh. I'm pretty sure that they fixed the vanishing racoon (the one that disappears on the little island after the fire), but apart from that, we don't have a Lion King job here. Oh, and they added restoration credits at the end.
I personally listened to the mono track, not the 5.1 mix, which is a better option for people with non-surround systems (like me ). In my opinion, it seems a bit better than the 5.1 mix, as the mono track was as the film was meant to be heard.
The extras is something I haven't totally tackled, but I'll give my opinion on the ones that I've seen so far. The Making of Bambi: A Prince is Born is very good. At times, it can seem a bit fluffy with animators saying "Bambi is the greatest movie ever ever ever!", but apart from that, it provides an excellent insight into the making of the movie. The Disney Time Capsule is also very interesting, as it provides a generally entertaining look at life and animation in 1942. The Original Theatrical Trailer is a nice inclusion, although Disney should really have included some more trailers from reissues like they did for Snow White and Alice in Wonderland. The Art of Bambi galleries are nice, although the character design ones past Bambi himself are a bit thin.
Overall, I think that this is going to be a great set, but not as good as Aladdin or Snow White platinums.

Heres what i put in the Bambi press release post in General Chat:
Well i live in the UK and got my copy today and theres abit of a story about it really lol!
Ok so i went to Asda to get my copy and they didnt have the slipcover, and i had been told there was one by some and wasnt by others so i thought maybe there isnt one. So anyway i brought it and then strolled into WHSmiths and saw that they had slipcovers
I could of walked back to Asda and got a refund but since i payed with my solo card i guessed it would take a while for the money to go back onto the card and so that would mean i couldnt get Bambi for another week. So i just had to have the slipcover, so i was naughty and found a spare slipcover and slipped it into my bag with my dvd. I know its really really bad....lol!!
But anyway, i have just watched Bambi and loved it!!!! I havent seen Bambi for at least 10 years and couldnt remember a single thing. They really did do a great job restoring it all and i was really impressed with how it looks. I havent looked at the bonus stuff yet i'll probably do that when im really bored. The menus are nice. And you also get a preview of Chicken Little which i was chuffed about as you could see the animation alot better than having to watch it on the computer. And when they shown the credits for those that worked on the restoration and they made them fit in perfectly with the credits at the start of the film which were the originals! But theres only one insert which shows the dvds, and is quite boring! What happened to the insert book sort of thing like Aladdin had? and the Discover disney dvd insert? GRRRRR!! Anyway im glad its part of my collection, such an amazing film!!!

Well some people bought it since it's number 1 in the DVD chart, putting Sharks Tale down to number 2

Great movie and for the first time it actually made me cry!
I haven't checked the bonuses yet. The restauration is nice, but Snow White's was far superior.
And I was right when I thought that they might repair the scene where raccoon's baby suddenly disappears. Now that cub is there and doesn't vanish! I don't know is it good or bad...

On the RKO logo front, do we know if it is lost or if Disney have chosen not to include them anymore. I mention this because I thought it was strange they would include a 1980s style Walt Disney Pictures logo rather than the newer version (or perhaps a preferable 1950s Buena Vista logo).
I was also a little disapointed that only one trailer was included, the film must have had a good 6 or 7 realeases internationally since the 1940s which would amount to a fair amount of trailers.
Other than that I am very happy to add Bambi to my collection and eagerly await Cinderella. Not as eagerly a widescreen Lady & the Tramp (unlike its previous rotten release) but eagerly none the less. I am now off to buy Mary Poppins to replace my 1 Disc no extras flipper and pick up the new Elvis single (I think this week it's Good Luck Charm).
Adios Amigos!
