I am broke, and I haven't bought DVDs on release date since last year's Treasures, but I am going to pick up
Ice Pirates bright and early on Tuesday morning...
I love this film, and have been wanting to find even a worn VHS for years.

Never saw it, but I think my brother in law referred to this movie once as- how did he say it? Ah yes- 'A piece of worthless 80's eurotrash that should be buried along with the Atari E.T. video games.' Seriously, he said that.
I've never seen it as I said, so I can't really say. The cover is... odd, but it may be interesting.

I remember watching it in the theater. I don't remember much of the film though? I remember when the those metel jaws drop down and try to mite off that dudes junk. (I don't know why that sticks in my head)? I will have to rent it and refresh my memory. Remember Spacehunter 3D? I think it was released about the same time.

Best Buy has it for $9.99, so that is almost as cheap as a rental...

Correct title "The Ice Pirates".........yes it is a very good movie. With a cast that featured the likes of Robert Urich, Mary Crosby, Bruce Velanch, Ron Perlman, Angelica Huston and John Carradine, the film is very full of action, and lots of really good one-liners. I don't think it is available on DVD though.

This is one of my favorite movies... I would almost say it was a cult classic, since not many people today have heard of it, and the people who like it, enjoy it greatly...
I would say it's poor performance was a result of bad marketing and bad timing, since people at the time thought it was a poorly-made quasi-serious film, instead of a spoof of the science fiction genre...
Edit: This is one of the very few DVDs I was actually waiting to get on release day...
