Just a question put out to all the members here (sorry if it's been asked before), but do you think that Disney will release its entire "Animated Classics" catalogue in 2-disc sets? (In any line, Platinum, Masterpiece, Anniversary, Special, or any other name they wish to give)

I personally hope that they do, as I've been very impressed with their 2-disc efforts as of late (Alice In Wonderland: Masterpiece, Aladdin: Platinum, Sleeping Beauty: Special, Mulan: Special, and yes, even The Lion King) and really hope to see some of my favorites in this format that may not be as popular (like The Sword In The Stone (I am hoping and praying that this gets a 2-disc set, as it's my absolute favorite Disney movie behind Aladdin), The Fox And The Hound, The Black Cauldron and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (It's classed as an animated classic, so why not?))

Anyways, I'm just really curious as to what everyone thinks about this.

I doubt they'll bother releasing all their animated features in 2-disc SEs (like The Black Cauldron for example) but I suppose there's always a chance. Never say never and all that.

In all likelihood, only their popular titles will get 2-Disc releases. It doesn't make much financial sense to release a deluxe package for a movie that was never much of a hit with the public to begin with.

To my opinion, Disney won't release every of its Classic onto a 2-Disc DVD set and this depending on the popularity of the picture.
I mean, classic like The Aristocats, The Sword in The Stone, The Fow and The Hound or The Rescuers are not populae enough, not talked-about and masterpiece-like enough to be release as 2-Disc Sets. I'm not even talking about The Black Chaldron here...

Initially (and not only for Disney movies), the 2-Disc Set treatment being reserved for popular and/or best-selling titles, but Disney has made some exceptions so far... but I don't think the exception will once apply for movies such as I listed below.

But, if you really count carefuly what picture did Disney release as 2-Disc set, you realize that a lot of films have been receiveing that treatment ! Plus, a lot of films are being rerelease as 2-Dsic set these days so, at the end, I'm sure some 50-60% of the Disney classics could be owned as 2-Dsic Sets on DVD.

I think that there is an excellent chance that all of Disney's so-called "classics" will get a 2 disc release (with the exception of the anthology films, which could be paired together as 3 2-disc sets).

Why for? Because Disney are running out of films to put on DVD! Yes, I know HD-DVD is coming, but it really will be a few years before it attains the market penetration most companies will be happy to release their crown jewels on. Especially with all the in-fighting between HD-DVD and BLU-Ray - remember the Betamax/VHS battle?

So I can see Disney releasing all their animated classics as 2 disc sets just to keep things ticking over before they truely feel comfortable re-releasing them all on the HD format. After all, Buena-Vista have released lesser films as 2 discers before now.
