Disney Classics- Extended Editions

Today as I was watching the LOTR:EE, I was thinking if Disney would ever dare to do something similar. I think it would be interesting to see some of the movies being re-released with more footage, but also keeping the original theatrical version so Disney won't see an angry mob of Disney fans trying to burn down the company for messing around with the classics.

Some of the movies felt like they could have been longer (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King). Here are some crazy ideas of mine that I would love Disney to add if there is going to be a "Director's Cut" for their movies in the future. (Believe me, I think the movies are perfect the way they are, but there are some questions that had been left unanswered.)

* Who's Nala's father? (LK)
*The Little Mermaid is shortest of the Disney Renaissance, so more things can be added. (Maybe someone in the forums might have some suggestions that they think would be nice to add to the movie.
*........and I can't think of anything else, maybe you guys would love to add some stuff up.

Pretend you're the director and had the chance to make some corrections, add more footage, improve and keep animation the same throughout the whole movie *(EX- The Little Mermaid looks slightly different in some scenes, her face is not the same) Pick any movie you like :D

Sorry for the boring post, but this is the only place where I can have fun online.:thumb:

The Little Mermaid comes first in mind. I always longed to see more sea and fishes the natural way in Little Mermaid, that would be beautiful.
Also it would be so fun to see Ariel's embarrasing moments when she explores the town or Eric's castle.

I personally don't think this is a good idea.... UNLESS there is already animation/voicework done for scenes that were cut out (i.e. Human Again). That is when I find it a good idea to do it (That being said, I don't mind "The Morning Report" in Lion King, but I most certainly don't want to see Disney take this route with every one of their films).

It's an interesting idea to be sure, and to play along if I were the director and I was told that I HAD to add more to these, the ones I would choose are The Little Mermaid, Alice In Wonderland (I want to know what the Jaberwock is and what it would do, why should Alice "beware" of it?), and The Sword In The Stone

I have to agree with Jayden. It's one thing if they've got a near-complete scene, but even then...unless it's entirely animated/finished (as the 747 ending of Lilo & Stitch apparently is), it's not going to be able to match the original animation. And most of the people who worked on Disney's animated classics aren't with Disney anymore if they're even alive. I view Disney's films as pieces of art, so going back to "add more" would be like us trying to add a new chapter to Dickens' Great Expectations or a new verse to a Beatles song. It just wouldn't be right!

I agree with Luke completely.

I have no problem with it if it's a sequence that was always intended for the original release, such as Human Again and If I Never Knew You (which was nearly done in 1995), but other than that...nah. Not a good idea.

There's a thing called PACING.

As a writer I look for it in other work and demand it of mine.

If something doesn't fit in the story, no matter how great it is, it gets cut. It could be the best scene in the whole movie, but if it's slowing the movie down, it has to go. Same with books. Unless of course in the case of LOTR where the intent of it is to give an extended cut, but even then all of the added scenes added something to the overall story (character devolopment, etc.)

Morning Report adds NADA to Lion King.

This is animation we're talking about, not live action. You can't just cut and paste things... throw it on the cutting room floor or pick it up again. Every sequence is carefully planned before animated. Unless we're talking about deleted scenes (Human again) this is not gonna work. It will probaply end up feeling awkward when newly created scenes are placed back into the film. You can't compare Disney animation to Lor of the Rings, but that is just my opinion. The only movie I felt needed to be longer and more explained was Atlantis, but like I said, they should not go back and make changes and add things. It's not right.

Wow! People agreeing with me, this is a first! Anyways, Luke is right, unless you have the original animators working on the sequence, it's not going to match exactly as it should and thus may look out of place a bit. I do drawings of Disney characters myself (I have a binder full of them, ranging from Mickey circa 1928 to Stitch) and while I am very good at it and can draw the characters nearly on model, there's usually something a little off about my drawings. No matter how many times I draw the character, there is something that doesn't look just right (and I have about 20 versions of Stitch  ). Even though my characters look a little better with every time I draw them, there's always something a little off.

O MY ******* GOSH! You have never heard Lewis Carroll's poem- the Jabberwocky?!?!? It's only one of the greatest pieces of literature!

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe

Wow! That sounds interesting, now I really wish the Jaberwock was in Alice In Wonderland! I guess I should really read the Lewis Carroll books, however time is at a premium right now, maybe when I finish University

LoL! I thought it would spark interest. Yeah, my friends and I (the artsy ones) love that poem...

There was a fully animated/completed scene from The Lion King where we see Nala and Pumbaa heading for the Pridelands after SImba left, but Timon was too hesitant to follow. I know this because I remember seeing this actual scene when I first saw it in theaters. Suprisingly they didnt add this to the Plantinum Edition

I think almost all Disney movies should be longer. Going from Princess Mononoke (2+ hours) to Aladdin (90mins) I feel like there is something missing. I'm left wanting more many times.

Wasn't this in The Lion King 1 1/2? I don't remember that scene in the original movie when I saw it in theatres back in '94...

But I could have sworn that the scene where Timon takes Simba's paw and uses it as a make-shift blanket was in the original movie; yet it wasn't. :/

Our memories can play tricks on us. Do you really think Disney decided to insert some fully-animated scenes on only some theatrical prints?
