Studio Ghibli Princess Mononoke question

I would like to ask Luke and or others why the movie Princess Mononoke is not listed in the "other animation" section along with the rest of Miyazaki's films being that this movie is released by "Buena Vista Home Entertainment/Miramax" which is part of Disney. IMO, this movie should be included in that section.

It was released under the Miramax label.

I would like it to be in the list, but it was released by Miramax, which does not have any movies on the list.

But Disney owns Miramax, do they not?, it's one in the same...no?
I am just wondering now why disney did this anyway?, it does not seem to make much sence to me.

Princess Mononoke didn't get a "Disney" release because of it's PG-13 rating caused by the shoting/ slicing heads and other small vulgarities. If not it would of probably of been released by "Disney". It could of probably released by Touchstone.

AHHH, I did not even think of the "slicing heads" thing. My 11yr old twins love this film alot (possibly there favorite), I don't think any of those type of scenes even phazed them in the film. My kids have seen much worse on regular tv shows lol.

Mononoke would've gotten a PG rating if it was a live action film.

I remember Princess Mononoke doing fairly poorly both financially and critically during its short and very limited run, perhaps in some part due to a severe lack of support on Miramax's side. I wonder how Princess Mononoke would have faired if it were released now, now that Spirited Away has opened the door to Miyazaki's movies here.

I didn't even know
Princess Mononoke had a theatrical run (regardless of how limited) until I read it in this anime magazine. I'm not even sure if they aired TV promos for this film... I'm sure they did but by some weird strike of luck I managed to miss every single one. :/

Princess Mononoke did run theatrical. It had trailers on t.v., but few. I never saw any of the trailers, and I've only seen the trailers because of the DVD. Mononoke opened in 8 theatres on October 29, 1999. Mononoke had it's widest release in 129 theatres. Mononoke made $2,375,308 domestic, but $159,375,308 worldwide.
