Did Ludwig Von Drake appear in his own "educational" cartoons -- cartoons in their own right -- or were his shows basically comprised of assorted cartoon clips/shorts compiled to support a given theme?

I'm thinking of those things I'd see on "Wonderful World of Disney" back in the '70s.

Does anyone have a listing of his cartoons/programs?

Could any of his programs show up on the "Assorted" edition of WD Treasures as an educational item like "Donald in Mathmagic Land?"

Ludwig von Drake was never in any own short subjects or educational series.
He was shown in a numerous TV-shows though. Some are made of clips from other films, but some are original as A Symphosium of Popular Songs, for an example - which had an cinema premiere and was nominated for an AA.
I have no ready list of the shows he appeared in, but maybe I can search and see.

The Special short "A Symposium On Popular Songs" (1962) was the only theatrical appearance of Ludwig Von Drake.

Of course, some of these TV shows were repeated in the 1970s and later. They were all shown on the Disney Channel, also.

The Hunting Instinct was released theatrically in Europe. It's also on laserdisc.

Yes, I forgot to mention that some of the TV shows were later released theatrically, mainly in Europe.

The Hunting Instinct was released in 1962.
Kids Is Kids was released in 1965.
Square Peg In A Round Hole (later retitled as Goofing Around With Donald Duck) was released in 1965.
Von Drake In Spain was released in 1965.

I remember a song the Ludwig sang about different colors in the rainbow. What was that called and what show did it originate in? (I don't think I'm imagining it, but I may be)

I need some help. I remember a song Ludwig sang once when I was little that was cute and I want to know what show it was in.

It went something like this "For I am Professor Ludwig Von Drake, Ludwig Von Drake, Ludwig Von Drake, for I am Professor Ludwig Von Drake, Ludwig Von Drake thats me..."

If anybody can help me I would bee deeply appreciative.

It was the first color episode, called "An Adventure in Color". It was released on VHS a long time ago.

Sorry to dredge up such an old topic, but I remember watching "Ludwig's Think Tank" looooooooooooong ago, when I was 7 or 8. I cannot find ANYTHING online about it (except this thread!). Anyone know if it's in print (mighty far-fetched), or if there's some sort of collection with it on there? I'm going through my nostalgia phase. Thanks!

The name of the song is "The Spectrum Song" (and it's hysterical). I've got it on the 3-CD box set The Music of Disney--A Legacy in Song that came out in the mid-90s.

I also remember "Ludwig's Think Tank" from the Disney Channel showings. I had it on video at one time, but don't have the complete program now. I own the various animated shorts that the show contained, such as "Harold And His Amazing Green Plants", "Scrooge McDuck And Money", "Winnie The Pooh Discovers The Seasons", and "Comets: Time Capsules Of The Solar System". I have replacment copies for two other items in the show - "Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom" and "Donald In Mathmagic Land". I just no longer have Ludwig's scenes.

The Ludwig Von Drake intros in this show were generally taken from the short "Symposium On Popular Songs" and other Ludwig TV shows.

Unfortunately, I know of no video or DVD release of this show.

Wow! Thanks for the info, JD. I had forgot it was really a compilation of shorts. Donald in Mathmagic Land was the one I remember most, and that I am finding more easily on the net. I'll continue searching, but thanks for the info!

Somebody tell Leonard Maltin that these are PRIME candidates for a WDT release! I mentioned this in a previous thread, but I would love to see Von Drake's television appearances consolidated in one place. Perhaps it's not enough for a full set, but I'm sure it could be packaged with something else.

I know this is an old thread and i'm prolly just not looking hard enough but i have a song that ludwig sang when i was a child stuck in my head and i can't seem to find it on the net.

It went "pentagon hexagon, octagon, the subject today is learning to say pentagon, hexagon, octagon. penta means five it feels so alive, hexa is 6 it's called a pre fix. octa is 8 isn't that great pentagon hexagon octagon."

anyone know what it's called or where it was used?

"Ducking with Disaster with Donald Duck and Friends" is probably my all time favorite episode with Ludwig Von Drake. I had no idea what it was because I had it on an old tape from the 80's from a Disney special thing called Disney's Day Off...
anyway that was my favorite. but I love him.

One thing I always appreciated about Carnival Time in particular was that it was all new material (if I remember correctly, as in not showing old cartoons) and included Joe Carioca and Donald along with Von Drake.

Home Video execs may not realize many of these shows contain a lot of original classic Disney animation, some by the masters like Milt Kahl, et al. The Ludwig shows are wonderful and his music numbers are great, not only Spectrum Song, but Rutabega Rag and the VonDrake Quake, etc. Paul Frees was a brilliant voice. He also lends a fresh voice to the narration for Mickey and the Beanstalk and other favorites.

Please bring these great shows to home video.

And don't forget Ranger Woodlore - - he had some great original World of Color shows too - - and there are some one-offs with original characters like Pacifically Peeking with Moby Duck, The Coyote's Lament and others.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but, just for the record, Ludwig also has appeared in lots of more modern stuff, like House of Mouse, one episode of DuckTales, and other Disney animated TV shows like that. In fact, I think he sometimes comes out on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, that new computer animated preschool show.
