Most people won't lend their DVD's but for us that lend them (in my case every so often) which movies you don't:

In my case:

Tarzan
Sleeping Beauty
Alice in Wonderland

and all the Platinum.. especially Aladdin of course; a friend was asking me for it and I said no. He said: "But you have 2" (the normal and Collector's) and I said: " Yeah, but one is closed and I won't open it unless something happens to the other one"... so the anwser is NO!

Probably only Pirates of the Caribbean because it has many scratches anyways.

Only my OOP DVDs: Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia movies, Tarzan, etc.

I'll usually lend out any movie to someone I know takes good care of the discs. I just lend it to them in a spare amaray case though, as I don't like handing over the original packaging (I'm convinced that, in general, people are very careful with the DVDs but very lazy in handling the cases).

This is how I do it. I put the discs in jewel cases so I don't have to give them the original Amaray case, unless it's this one friend of mine whom I trust completely with my stuff (because she's more anal about her/other's belongings than even I am).

no one relly every asks to borrow my dvds so i dont have to worrie about it.

I let people borrow whatever but the list of people is small including one of my sisters and three friends. Two of those friends have moved far away so I don't have to worry about them borriwing anymore.

Usually I put them in jewel cases and don't give the packaging unless it's my sister. I trust her and I trust my one friend although she's had my copy of Empire Records since last March. .....and I used to watch that movie all the time...

Anyways the ones I will never let anyone at all borrow are my Walt Disney Treasures. All others I'm open to... depending on who wants to borrow.

Not meaning to sound selfish, but I don't loan out any of my dvds, I have had to many people borrow them and ruin the dvds, and they wouldn't replace them.

I would let people borrow anything but my disney dvd's. But nobody ever asks to borrow any so I dont have to worry about it.

By which movies would you never borrow, I assume you mean which movies would you never lend?

I'll lend out just about anything to close friends.

There is nothing more fun than introducing a friend to one of your favourite movies, especially if it is something relative obscure.

Sometimes I'll just lend the discs, and not the packaging (most people aren't as anal as I am) especially if it is something clunky or especially fragile.

Its really best just to not lend out anything. Many times you never get the item back or never get it back in the same condition. So, I try not to do it too much, especially with DVDs. I used to do it with CDs, but I lost a lot of them over the years.

I work in a library, so I'm used to seeing CDs and DVDs trashed. Honestly, I think people must use them as frisbees.

However, if you can't trust your friends, who can you trust?

I'll lend any of them to my family, but they know how I am with my Disney DVDs, so they never ask - just in case they do damage them I guess. No point in risking their lives when they can come and watch it at our place on the big screen which is better anyway

I don't let anyone borrow my Dvd's. They are welcome to watch it at my house. I will let people borrow just about any VHS tape I have since they don't need as much care when you handle them. This is the one big advantage that a VHS has over a Dvd I am curious if in the future they will come out with something with all the wonders of a Dvd but yet like a VHS is very hard to damage it.

My friend still has my "Mint na Bokura" manga and "Magic Knight Rayearth" manga boxset. She's had the latter since we were seniors in high school (2003) and the former for maybe a year or so. I'm beginning to wonder if she'll ever get around to reading them so I can take them back.

Well generally nobody wants to borrow my dvds...although very often if they are round they want to put one on but im fine wirh that!

I have to second that, but replace Maerj's lost CDs with my lost books.

I only let my best friend borrow my DVD's anymore since I know how careful she is with her own stuff. It just takes a while for her to watch them! I don't remember how many months she held on to my beloved Pirates of the Caribbean. And she still has a couple of my anime DVD's from last March. . .LOL! But I know they're in good hands and I can get them back anytime I ask for them.

However, I won't let her sister borrow them anymore. She has young kids, and every single disc I let them borrow got scratched, even though she insisted her kids wouldn't be handling them. They were playable, but still. . . I'm so careful with my discs; not even my oldest ones have the slightest scratch on them. I was almost happy when her youngest daughter utterly destroyed my Lion King 1 1/2 set, since that gave me an excuse to not let them borrow my movies anymore without feeling guilty. On the other hand, she's not about to replace it, either. I miss that movie, but I don't wanna have to buy it again. . .

I have worked in a library for over 20 years now (I'm not that old!)
We have a machine that fixes trashed DVDs, by shaving off the damaged layer and adding a new protective layer. It makes them brand new again.
