If Disney were to release four Live-Action titles from the vault each year, two in the spring, and two in the fall, which would you want? Here's mine.

I don't think I could select specific titles, just because I haven't seen very many of the pre-'80 live-action films. But certainly, they should all be coming...sooner than later.

Your first choice is the one I want to see most badly - Flight of the Navigator. Sounds awesome.

Seems like the Hallmark network airs Disney films like these all the time. Too bad i don't get it.

It´s a silly movie I think
It´s also not 100 % Disney - it´s made by another company and purchased and distributed by Disney.
Wish for real Disney titles to appear first - lost treasures like THE SWORD AND THE ROSE, PERRI, RUN, COUGAR, RUN and SONG OF THE SOUTH perhaps!

i saw Flight of the Navigator a few years ago and I can't see why anyone would watch this film except for curiosity's sake. It was really stupid...and not at all believable.

I saw Flight of the Navigator a loooong time ago, and watched it on video many times. Its a fun little scifi movie!

I loved Flight of the Navigator. I think it was great! One of those ones I wore the tape out of as a kid....

Song of the South & Darby O'Gill would have to be my top two picks for Vaulterization, but really ALL of them!

Definitely most of the pre 1980 movies.

And I am waiting for new editions of Anchor bay titles when Disney has his rights get back (The Happiest Millionnaire, Cat from Outer Space, The Black Hole, Watcher in the Woods for exemple)

In fact Captain Hook 4 of your most wanted titles are already available on dvd but sadly some are barebones/fullscreen editions or Anchor Bay dvds (arrrrrgh !).

Back in 1997, Disney like other majors was not sure in the success of the dvd format so they didn't make such a big investment for titles who deserved it. They made a deal with Anchor bay to distribute some (I want to say a lot or too many) "minor" films. I am not sure this is a long term deal (10 years by far so we might expect some reel Disney releases of these Anchor Bay titles in 4 or 5 years). You know Disney, they will get their rights back as soon as possible to... make money.

Oh yeah, forgot... My parents bought Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again on DVD, and after watching it I wanted to cry.... such a great film getting so little on DVD. Blackbeard's Ghost made me angry - I was SO excited and then it was fullscreen. I also REFUSE to buy Anchor Bay titles, so I missed out on Island and Millionaire, but I still am hoping that Disney will someday learn to put out all their movies in WIDESCREEN with just a few extras at least.

Enough rambling. Anyway, thanks for the info MagicMouse. Stupid Disney, to give away their titles... I heard on this site that MGM was going to get the rights to the ones that Anchor Bay got. Can anyone confirm this?

More than anything else I'd love to own:

"The Three Lives Of Thomasina"

But I fear it'll never make it to DVD, because Disney only cares about the bottom line and I'm sure they don't think Thomasina is a big enough movie.

Plus it seems that every old movie they release has to have a modern-day remake or some sort of tie-in ...For instance, Treasure Island was released at the same time as Treasure Planet, 20,000 Leagues paired with Atlantis sequel...Love Bug...hmm, there was no Love Bug-like new product Disney wanted to push - hey maybe that's why it was so bloody hard to find!

Anyway I don't think Disney would consider Thomasina remake-able, since it's an old-fashioned and heartfelt film - instead of trendy and superificial, and thus it wouldn't suit the Hilary Duff-type "actors" they hire these days.

I watched the trailer at disney.com and how annoying is it that they changed the girl's athletic interests to wannabe-pop-star?! Oh silly me, EVERY young girl wants to be a pop star these days. Girls who play sports, like, sweat and stuff, and that would be sooo unattractive! Ugh. When will the pop-tart trend END?!

Actually, Lindsay Lohan's daughter will NOT be the regular pop-star a la Hilary Duff-she's supposed to be the rebellious, Avril Lavigne-type, which completely contradicts Duff's pop-star "fluffiness". Don't get me wrong-I love Lizzie, I'm just starting to get really annoyed with Hilary.

Yeah the girl in Freaky Friday is holding a guitar so I figured she was supposed to be more in the Avril mold. But I really don't think Avril's all that different from the Hilarys (or Britneys) of the pop-tart world. Of course she's trying to present herself as an "alternative", but I think Avril's just as manufactured as the rest. Her music is mostly-written-by-others, polished and over-produced and thus more pop than alternative/rock. In my opinion.

Sorry to get so off-topic. My point was just that I'm tired of the young-girls-becoming-pop-stars trend. And I was annoyed to see yet another example of it in the Freaky Friday remake. The trend is *so* prevalent now that they're sticking it in movies just 'cause. Bleh. I understand it's a remake and they shouldn't necessarily keep everything from the original movie - but still. It seems like they're sending the message that girls today wouldn't be interested in sports, and there's nothing else they *should* strive to become except lolitas for the music industry. Maybe it's true that most young girls these days are idolizing and emulating the pop stars, but I think that's *sad*, and I don't really want to see it reflected in movies, because it just reinforces the trend.

And I agree with you about Hilary Duff being annoying. Only I never liked Lizzie either. I've seen the show on the Family channel and I just can't understand it's appeal.

I didn't even know in the original, Jodie Foster's character was into sports. That is a kind of unusual change.

I thought the remake looked kinda okay, but my opinion has changed from the media bombardment. Not that it won't be good - it's just seeing the same darn thing again and again on every network takes it from "kinda funny" to "quite annoying." Not to mention the stuff they spoonfeed the kids on Disney.

I can't wait to see Freaky Friday. The word-of-mouth on it so far is very good, and it currently has an 89% on RottenTomatoes.

I'd love for Disney to release both the original Freaky Friday and the new one in a special 2-disc DVD release. Other studios have done that when releasing remakes to DVD, so it's not unprecedented.

I halfway wonder if BVHE really is planning something like that, actually, given that Disney's site stated earlier this year that the original Freaky Friday was coming to DVD, and then one day it was suddenly pulled.

All I can say is that this Freaky Friday remake looks MUCH better than the one from the early '90's starring Shelley Long.

i saw flight of the navigator a bunch when i was a kid, always enjoyed it. i just recently saw it again however (on the hallmark channel as a matter of fact) and did not enjoy it at all, not even for nostalgia. it's like a no budget ripoff of ET. i can't tell you how many times i saw that movie as a kid at birthday parties and stuff like that. i'm glad i saw it on tv cause i might have gone out and bought it(if it ever comes out) i'd really like to see kidnapped, freaky friday and the ugly dachsund.
