And I've heard of it but have never see it. Sounds, erm... interesting, to say the least.

Menstruation in itself isn't funny, it's society's reaction to it. I mean, a mother playing frisbee with her daughter on the beach talking about "freshness?" You have to admit that's funny.

Oh, and did you notice that "men" are responsible for the beginning "menstruation?" It's all our fault! (Just like everything else is.)

I actually vaugly remember seeing this when I was in elementary school. Don't ask for details, I wouldn't be able to give any, even if I wanted too. But personally, I don't see what the big whoopla about menstruation and menstruating is. Reaction or not. I think the only way one would find it amusing is if they've never GONE through it. Let's rub sand paper across your lower abdomen all week and see how you like it. How about the water weight? The fatigue? Need I go on?

I have a bumper sticker somewhere that says, "MENstruation, MENtal illness, MENopause. Why is it everything tragic and scarring in our lives begins with MEN?!" I of course, thought if was funny BEFORE my first visit from Aunt Flo, now it's a joke to think men cause this, let alone could handle it!

I haven't seen that video possibly because I'm too young and a guy. I don't remember seeing any video in sex education class.

I agree that menstruation is a natural process of a girl turning into a young lady.

From what I've heard, its slightly gross and uncomfortable. Some girls I've talked to have cramps and mood swings. I don't see how anyone could find menstruation amusing.

Really, it isn't menstruation that's amusing (because as DisneyGirl said, it isn't at all amusing)... it's menstruation plus the Disney name that'd elicit any sort of shock.

I think most of us associate Disney with candy, sugar, and wonderfully animated (at least before their junk-to-masterpiece ratio started to turn in favor of the former) films, not bodily functions.

I agree! I associate Disney with family friendly animation and action movies, and theme parks. not bodily functions.

My previous post on this subject disappeared during the recent Great General Discussion Disappearing Act. So I'll try to repeat the information.

The Disney Company has created education films on just about every health subject over the years. including AIDS.

The only version of The Story Of Menstruation that I know is the 1946 educational short. I have not been able to verify if the educational short was updated later for more modern audiences. I don't believe it has been updated.

I own a copy of this educational short. It is a well-done low key presentation of a fact of nature as a girl grows into womanhood. The narrator has a soft female voice, which presents the subject in a very "just the facts" manner. The female characters (1940s style animation such as Make Mine Music) are well animated. There is a body chart showing the scientific nature of menstruation. The short runs about 11 minutes.

I also have a copy of a health education short I rarely hear anyone ever mention - the 1973 "V.D. Attack Plan". It runs about 16 minutes and contains a significant amount of animation of the "germ warfare" the disease is planning on the human body with veneral disease - gonorrhea and syphilis. There are some sickening live-action examples of what the diseases do to the human body. But the short is very well done and well animated. The VD germs have a rather effective touch - Nazi war helmets, or at least helmets that someone in the U.S.A. would consider to be Nazi war helmets from World War II.
