...given ONLY one option: Walt Disney Treasures or Walt Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites?
I have a limited budget so I am forced to choose only one collection among the two mentioned. I think the winner will be the Treasures.
Thanks.

Obviously the treasures since they have the same stuff as the new dvds. Except for Chip and Dale which will eventually come out in treasure form.

Well, it depends on how limited your budget is. You'll be able to get entire first wave of Classic Cartoon Favorites for $40 when it's released. The same amount of money will get you about 2 Walt Disney Treasures sets. But of course, the Treasures will have a lot more content, a lot more bonus features, and a more thoughtful presentation. If you just want a few shorts of the major Disney characters, then Classic Cartoon Favorites. If you're willing/able to spend more and are interested in getting a more substantial body of work for each character, plus supplements and context (care of Leonard Maltin), then the Treasures are the obvious choice. Most people around here fall into the latter class.

How many volumes does the Classic Cartoon have? Right now it shows up to Vol 4 which are coming on January 11 next year.
I really want to go with Treasures but I have limited budget. Can someone show me how many Treasures are there?
If you're gonna get the Treasures, is it still necessary to buy the Classic Cartoon?

I can show you the world (of Treasures):

Most of the past waves are tough to find; they're all out of print in tin form.

Well I don't know if it's necessary to buy anything, but from Wave 1 of the Classic Cartoon Favorites, all of the Mickey shorts have already been released on Treasures and all of Donald's but two. I think all of the Goofy shorts were on the Treasure. The one exception: most of the Chip 'n Dale shorts haven't shown up on Treasures, and may not show up in any future Treasures set.

thanks so much for your inputs.
i guessed i'll pass on this 4th wave of Treasures due to budget concerns. anyway it will be difficult for me to catch up on waves 1-3 since they are already out or print.
since i am starting to collect disney dvd, i'll start on the 1st wave of cartoon classics.
thanks again.

I'm not really interested in the Mickey Mouse club or the black and white Mickey cartoons, so I'll be getting "The Complete Pluto" as well as the Chip 'n' Dale cartoon classics DVD. The other three are already available as Treasures which I have, so I'll just get that one

eap_44 and castleinthesky I hope you get to find the first ones. It took me a while but a friend of mine found me a tinless box set in Cotsco a few months ago. The more than a year search/wait was worth it.
and they were available on the Disney DVD club for a while too (i'm not a member so i don't know if any are stillavailable there) I would have prefered tins but I don't watch tins on my monitor, if you know what i mean

If you can't find the Davy Crockett one an alternative is to get the TV episodes on another DVD edited as movies which has an exclusive Chip & Dale short. Other alternatives is a couple of the titles have been issued in other regions so if you have a region free DVD player you might try that. (Beware the german/spaniard MM in LC 2 tho if you want the Runaway Brain short. It's not included in that particular edition)
If you really like the Disney shorts, one must try to get the treasures, you might not watch them all forever but you might find several essential gold nuggets that might not show up on the Classic Cartoon series. Of course the Classic Cartoon discs might serve as an apperitive to get you by while or if you can't find the treasures.
Even with their slight "errors" or "variances" and decreasing "tin" features (remember, wave 5 or 6 will come in recycled beer cans

) I really like the series, they are great for me, specially cus without it, it would probably been eons till i got to watch those shorts since i never got to watch them before so many were all new to me.

WONDERLICIOUS AND THE DISNEY DVDS...
Well, BVHE UK release hardly any of the Treasures, so unless I pick up a Silly Symphony release, I won't be finding a treasure. Fortunately, the UK got similar DVDs to the Classic Cartoon collection yet we didn't get a Chip and Dale one. And that would be the only one I'd be interested in picking up.
The moral of this tale:
BVHE UK suck!

Chip and Dale has been passed by the BBFC (although it may be just the menus, I can't remember off-hand).
So its either coming soon, or is already out as a store exclusive, which neither BVHE UK or the store can be bothered to tell anyone about!

Treasures. It's great to have those films in chronological order and like this make sure to have all of them. Plus the boxes are beautiful in the shelf.
