Since in about a week, we'll be getting our first major precursor awards, I thought it'd be fun to post predictions for the Golden Globes, especially since they're so much more fun than the Oscars - a lot easier too. No alternates! (That takes away the excitement.)

Best Picture - Comedy/Musical

Bride and Prejudice (I know this is not going to happen, but it's wishful thinking. They honored Gurinder's Bend It Like Beckham last year, so it's not totally impossible. This spot will most likely go to Spanglish.)

I'd love to reply, but I've seen so few films, and I suspect many of the nominated people and films have yet to come, so it'd just be a shot in the dark. Then again, you're including films that haven't been released yet, so maybe you want us to take shots in the dark?

Hope <i>The Incredibles</i> gets a Best Picture nod like you predict.

Yeah, that's basically what this is. Many films in supposed contention have not been released yet: Most of this is just pure speculation. Feel free and let your imagination (and longshot hopes) run wild!

Actually, Luke, I think you may go 10/10 on your predictions! The Foreign Press loves British comedies (they've nominated two in the Comedy/Musical category for two years running) and Shaun of the Dead seems to be the best bet this year. I don't know why I didn't think of that one. As for Drama, Closer and Garden State are excellent choices to my Predictions of Kinsey and Alexander. Kinsey seems to be too sexual in orientation to gain notice my major awards and The first reviews of Alexander are pretty severs, as suspected. Way to go! Anybody else?

Note: I have no idea how the determine which films are eligible. Unlike the Oscars, they don't have a master list with a film delegate from each country. Therefore, there's a possibility that countries can have more than one nomination, in this case Spain. I would have gone for Hero, but it was originally released more than two years ago, so I think they'll go with his latest martial arts masterpiece.

Well, the Oscars are the highest honors in the American movie industry. They are given out by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

The Golden Globes are considered to be the second highest honor, although you really can't take them seriously because of some of their whacky and undeserving choices. They split all major categories into Comedy/Musical and Dram, which is a good thing, because there are a lot more nominess. They are given out by teh Hollywood Foreign Press. It's come to recen tlight that maybe people place to much emphasis on the Golden Globes. Many of the members are not respected journalist, just talking heads with websites. A lot of times, they just choose a winner that is a good predicter of the Oscar winners to gain credibility. Sometimes critics awards are better to have than a Golden Globe.
