I heard that Disney may be dropping the idea of 2 disc releases of their films! Is this true? If this has been discussed, I'm sorry and merge this thread with another if so.

Given that most of their animated films have been released on DVD already, I can't really see them dropping the 2 disc re-releases. It's an incentive for those with the original release to upgrade.

Perhaps they just mean for new films? This could be true, after all Home on the Range only got a single disc release.

yeah I agree with 2099net. I dont see Disney droping the idea of 2 disc relases just because thats the main reason a lot of people are upgrading. Although it would be kind of sad if they stop it on new releases I mean if the material is there they should put it out there. But thats just me.

It would seem to be an odd move, as the 'standard' seems to be a 2-Disc set for most things now, whether they need it or not.

However, there has been a bit of a trend to go back to the single disc on some major releases, from all studios. Even so, a packed single disc is much better than a fluffy 2-Disc set, simply for the sake of it being a "2 Disc set". I mean, Lion King 2 was the most pointless 2-Disc release of all time.

Like everybody else, I can't see them dropping 2-Disc sets alltogether, and I personally haven't heard anything of the sort.

However, I wouldn't be suprised if they dropped 2-Disc sets for new releases. It seems like Fox and Dreamworks doing similar, with one-disc releases of hits like Shrek 2, The Day After Tomorrow, and upcoming single-disc versions of I, Robot and AVP. You'd think all those movies would get 2-Disc sets, since they did well at the box office and since both studios have consistently released double-discers in the past. But both seem to be dropping them for brand new releases. So even though there's no news of Disney doing this, it wouldn't shock me too much to see them follow the lead of other studios (they've done it in the past).

They are thinking about getting rid of the paper sleeves that they slide over the DVD.
