nothing is exclusively meant for anybody... people have different views and perceptions towards everything in life and so there is no such a reason to place limiting boundaries on such a vast market. when it comes to the direction of promotion, disney is definitely pushing its films towards an intended demogrpahic of younger children but thats not to say that disney films are strictly for kids. the face value of disney movies would probably have a general instant appeal to younger audiences but its quite obvious that many adults and fans of all ages have an appreciation for disney films and animated films in general.

I find most Disney films have the most universal appeal of all cinema - this lies in their ability to say something to people of all ages. It is their exploration of human imagination (often through animal and inanimate characters, no less) and fantasy through very real occurrences and themes. Things like Morality vs. Adventure in "Pinocchio", being outcast from society ("Dumbo"), losing a parent (a number of them), raising a child ("Nemo"), etc.
There are countless great films that tell wonderful stories and leave indelible impressions of the characters they create - but very few possess the warmth and universal charm that Disney films do.
So, naturally, all of us here are old enough to fall out of the childhood Disney audience and yet we love the films. It saddens me when people firmly believe that animated films or Disney films are only for children, because I couldn't disagree more.
Oh yeah, and welcome to the forum!

Than You...

I just wanted to hear somebody say this. I have been teased before about having an animated collection in my home. I have no children, and have love animated films since I was young.(teens,20's). I have japanese anime as well. Thanks for encouragement!

Thanks again

Don't let anyone dictate your DVD collection...they're just jealous.

Thanks rogue

Maybe I should tell the jealous people this. I dont believe animated films (and japanese anime are for kids. I have the Cowboy Bebop and Sailormoon S collection. It's just me. I just wanted to see if other people felt the same way I do. ^_~

Im 32 as well and have always felt that animated films are the highest forms of art. They combine not only talented artists, but voice actors, singers, musicians, literally hundreds of people who have to create a story frame by frame! Those who make fun of you because you enjoy watching animated movies are fools. What do they watch that is so much better? Plus, there have been R rated animated films, they certainly aren't for children.
Welcome to the board!

Welcome to the board Bionic...
I think sometimes Disney aims their films squarely at kids, and hopefully the kid in all of us. Unfortunately, this sometimes means fart jokes (not that there is anything wrong with the occasional fart gag).
The Disney films that REALLY work are those that appeal to everyone.
But as others have said here (far better than I), it comes down to this: Do you like the film? If you start buying DVDs based on what other people will think of your collection, you either end up with stuff you don't like or don't want, or miss out on those you do want.
So maybe some Disney films are aimed at kids, and some are enjoyable by the whole family. Either way, if you like 'em (and I'm not ashamed to say I do) go out and buy the ones you want (as long as you don't send yourself broke like I do on a regular basis...

).

I'm also 32 years old and a male that enjoys Disney animation. I think Disney films are made for anyone who has an imagination and can suspend disbelief and enjoy a good movie. Some are better than others, but so are movies in other genres. Good art is good art, no matter what the medium it is produced in.
Sometimes it seems strange to be buying Disney movies when I don't have any children; but if I ever do, boy, will they have quite the movie collection to watch!

I always think it's quite sad when people tell me Disney Animation is only for children ... I love animation and cartoons in general ...
From Disney animated shorts to the animated features ... as well as Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, The Flinstones, The Jetsons, Scooby Doo, etc etc etc ...
I don't think anyone can watch a good Disney classic and tell us they hate animation ... these movies are made to be liked ... there simply is no other option ...

Disney films arent just for kids, they are for the whole family. so people shouldnt make fun of others just because they like Disney films. besides Disney films bring families together unlike other studios films.
Are Disney films...

Welcome Scaramanga!

It's always nice to see a Star Wars fan!
Wait... that quote was from Star Wars wasn't it? I believe Qui-Gon Jinn said it to the "Queen" in The Phantom Menace, but now that I've looked at your site, I don't think that's where you got it

I think it is from
Clones. So you are right... a Star Wars quote.
And just to keep this on topic: Disney rocks! Buy 'em all!
Oh, yes and welcome Scaramanga!
