The Transformers

Does anyone know whether this limited edition tin collector's set would be able to house all 5 of my R1 Transformers box-set releases ('Season 1', 'Season 2 Pt. 1', 'Season 2 Pt. 2', 'Season 3 Pt. 1', 'Season 3 Pt. 2 & Season 4')???

I'm considering ordering it from Amazon.co.uk just to clear up some shelf space and keep my box-sets from Rhino organized and nicely packaged but I want to make sure that all of my season sets will fit. I think Rhino only released 4 box-sets in the UK as opposed to 5 because they packaged seasons 3 & 4 together as one complete set instead of splitting season 3 accross two seperate releases like they did in R1. Does anyone know if this would work?
Also, in terms of extras/supplementals, do the R2 sets offer more, less or the same as the R1 series?
Thanks!

Rhino didn't release the Transformers sets in the UK. I don't know who did off the top of my head (Metrodome seems to spring to mind though. A small UK distributor, normally of independent films).
I don't know for sure, but the UK discs do have different supplements - quizes, fan art and I think art from Transformers comic artist Lee Sulivan are some of the differences. I don't think the UK sets even use the same masters, but I could be wrong on this.

Thanks James.
Have you seen comparisons between the Rhino/Metrodome transfers?
I'm wondering if they might have corrected the few soundtrack glitches among other minor issues that Rhino let slide?
I was reading an online review last night and most of the extras seemed to have come in the way of fan conventions and commercial bumpers similair to the "Knowing is half the battle" segments remembered when watching G.I. Joe. I know that several featurettes on fan conventions and interviews were included in the R1 Rhino sets, but I really hope that these commercial bumpers were included too!
I wish I could find a site like DVDBeaver or something, that would offer comparisons between each set in both the R1 & R2 series...

I don't know, but I think (1) the sound on the UK sets is correct. No newly added FX and (2) the images are not remastered
There is a site on the web comparing the two - I will need to look later.

Thanks James, I just came accross that site myself and guess who's quoted in the review...

It appears that the Metrodome sets contained only the remixed 5.1 audio tracks so I'll stick with the Rhino sets even though some of the animation effects and soundtracks were butchered, at least a majority are still offered in their original 2.0 format...

Apart from the final set or final 2 sets, the stereo tracks on the Rhino releases are NOT the originals. They are downmixes of the new audio. This problem was corrected on the last (or next to last) set.

I'm pretty sure the original 2.0 mixes were offered alongside the new 5.1 tracks on all of the sets from Rhino, only some of the 2.0 tracks had added sound effects in a number of episodes. That's what I've understood from reading the reviews...

The tin box will hold 13 amaray cases, since Metrodome's releases is 3 amarays in a slipcase. (Except the last volume, which contains 4 DVDs). So I guess you can put 13 amarays next to the Region 1 releases, and see if the (more or less) match.
I only have the first two Region 1 releases, so I cannot tell for sure myself. But the Region 2 releases are nice too. (With some nifty (small) postcards included).

Season 1 of the original show is scheduled to come out in June:

If they remaster it or have really cool extra features, I might get it. Otherwise, I might not. I already have the Rhino releases for this and G.I. Joe. I hope this means that G.I. Joe is not far behind, because I still need the rest of Season 2 to make it out to DVD.

I actually missed the Rhino sets when they were first released, and debated importing a set for awhile. I'm glad to see its re-released. I know some were unhappy with the Rhino sets (The added sound effects mainly), so hopefully the problems are corrected on the new sets.
Hopefully they actually finish releasing all of G.I. Joe this time.

I have all the Rhino sets (thank God

) but I might re-buy it, depending on if there are new great features and it's a better picture transfer.
I'd really consider buying it if they used the original broadcast audio on all the episodes. I know on Rhino's DVDs of Seasons 1 and 2 you could change the audio from the 5.1 surround to 2.0 stereo and it would retain the original sound... but not on every episode for some reason.

Good news indeed!
I missed the Rhino sets, the price was always a bit much. The same goes for G.I. Joe, although I didn't watch as much of it.

The "restored to the original broadcast versions with a new stereo soundtrack created from the original audio" and toy commercials have sold me on buying it.
