This topic has news that a special edition is coming to England, and if we get it, so will you Americans!
Jack will be pleased with this news considering his thoughts on the past release in his review...

This is kind of old news, since a 2-Disc set has long been rumored for 2005. But its nice to see another peice of info indicating it.
And yeah, I'll be VERY pleased. I almost regret getting the original DVD. Every time I've seen it, the piss-poor transfer gets more annoying.

Jack's right that this isn't really news, but it's nice to have another source for the information. Not sure what other extras of substance they could add. There's already a documentary and a Canemaker commentary. But the video quality definitely leaves lots of room for improvement.

Looking forward to it... as long as all the main current extras (Walt's Intro, Commentary Track, Celebrating Dumbo Featurette, Sound Design & Art Gallery) are ported over and a new transfer is offered!

Hmmm... a Dumbo 2-disc set in the UK... well the UK got 2-Disc sets for Day After Tomorrow, I Robot and Shrek 2, yet America didn't, so I won't hold my breath.

It's not really a documentary. More like a featurette, and it doesn't really reveal anything about the making of the movie. The whole thing is compromised of people singing praises.
Therefore, they could add some nice behind-the-scenes material or a retrospective documentary for Disc 2. They could expand the galleries somewhat, and perhaps add some deleted scenes material. A new commentary could be done with different participants, maybe.
There's a lot they could add. The current DVD could and should really be improved apon in every way.

Well, this has been discussed in a few other threads. But nobody really knows when a 2 disc version of this is coming out. There has been no announcement and there is no real speculation about it. Theorize all you want, but I don't think it's going to happen soon (since the current edition is still in print). It will happen, just when is the question

I'm not sure about your conclusion simply citing its continued status as "in print" as justification for Dumbo not being released within the next one to two years. Pocahontas Gold Edition is still available despite the fact that the 2 disc comes out in June, and I almost bought Alice in Wonderland two months before its two-disc release because I was unaware of its upcoming release. My prediction: late 2006.
This thread should probably be locked, though, because it has really been over-covered.

Why do you guys always ask threads to be locked because they're redundant? There's always going to be new posters with old questions. New posters don't know what's been discussed and can't go digging through 3 zillion old threads looking for info. It's completely rude to ask that a perfectly innocent thread be locked.

Well, then they'll post the question they need answered right...by posting a new topic?

I understand what you mean, but I don't think LUKE gets mad about newbies asking questions! So if it's locked and millions of posts away, i think newbies or even old members will post a topic regardless!
Disneybell No problem!

As long as you're enjoying the forum!

I don't think anyone intends to be rude to the newbies. I Luke & the mods all mean it as a friendly pointer for those who may not know their way around a message board yet and so that the forum can be kept organized and easily-navigated. Same goes for other members who post too.
That being said, a little discussion for a new Dumbo release is always fun every few months because we're always looking for developments or just to get hyped. I suppose this could be merged with an older thread (but if you just search topic titles for Dumbo, the only thread of this exact nature that turns up is a small, non-specific one from over a year ago). Still, it always helps to check the front page and the search feature.

you're not the only one! I think DUMBO
deserves a 2-Disc release!

and mainly because i don't have the single disc version because the quality ain't that great!

I don't love it (never had a very special place in my heart, although I saw that particular clip many times when I was small), but I'm still hoping for a 2-disc release. If I got it right Walt didn't really care of it that much as of Bambi which was in production at the same time, so that might be reason to something.. Or, whatever it is, I would still love to see a better release for Pinocchio because it's still the second full-length animated film after Snow White.

Wait for it. A few more years and we'll get the Platinum edition of Pinocchio!

Unfortunately, I doubt a 2 disc is round the corner for 2 reasons.
1) The current edition is readily available, and has not been announced to go out of print.
2) The rumours about a 2 disc really flared up when BVHE UK scheduled a special edition for release in 2005. Well the press release for the "special edition" has been released, however it is just a reissue of the 1 disc. Therefore if a 2 disc was coming, I doubt that BVHE UK would bother releasing the 1 disc again.
Another suggestion is that Dumbo might be likely to crop up as part of the platinums. If that is the case, we may not see a release until March 2010 as that appears to be the next available spot.

This is a little bit off-topic already (my post), but when are we going to know about the new Platinum Editions? I mean people new about Bambi ages before it's release, so when do you think we're getting information about the new ones then? Not talking about PE's for 2006!
I think a 2-disc SE would suit Dumbo better than a PE.
