The musical score in a movie is really important, even if sometimes when you're watching a Disney movie, you won't pay attention to it but you know it's still there. And sometimes the score stands out and let's you experience how the characters feels (an example-simba ascends prode rock to take his place as king and you hear the powerful music as the movie ends) . By far I think The Lion King has one of the most memmorable scores ever made...powerful, dramatic, self-explanatory..Hans Zimmer did a great job arranging it and I think it deserved the Academy Award and the Golden Globe.

Lion King got my vote as the best score in a Disney film..

What are yours?

I don't know an all time favourite score, but I like these the most-

Alice in Wonderland
Little Mermaid
Lion King
Aladdin
Pinocchio
The Rescuers Down Under

The Rescuers Down Under.

It's bold, vibrant ... very lush and exotic, as well as romantic. The unique instruments used, in combination with the orchestra ... the personality. The varying themes (from the flight theme, to the message montage theme, to the more romantic theme). It's just a gem. It's apparent when watching the film, but becomes even more so ... when you hear it on its own. For me, it evokes a lot. For gracing a non-musical film that was stuck between multiple musicals, the score hits its mark and the result is quite distinct.

Bruce Broughton did a commendable job.

The thing is, most Disney movies' scores rely quite a bit on the songs, so its hard to judge the scores themselves most of the time. I'm drawn more towards the scores that have their own themes aside from the songs. I think The Lion King is the winner in that area - very emotional, poignant, and memorable. Beauty and the Beast and Rescuers Down Under great too.

Aladdin is definitely my favorite. I listen to its soundtrack all the time. In second place, I'd say The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The entire score is just beautiful, and I especially love The Bell Tower.

I really like Hans Zimmer's score for <i>The Lion King</i>. It's much more dramatic and in my opinion much richer than the traditional Disney score. <i>The Little Mermaid</i>'s score is pretty cool too.

Sleeping Beauty has a fantastic score. Peter Pan's is fairly good. Those are the two that jump out at me from the older films. As far as newer fare goes, I'd have to say The Lion King as well.

The Lion King by a long shot. Although it's been a while since I watched animated movies specifically paying attention to the scores . . . I'll have to do that and then get back to y'all with more detailed notes.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame, definitely. I love the Latin chorus and big epic feel of it all. Other Disney scores I love:

Cinderella
Alice in Wonderland
Sleeping Beauty
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (Disney REALLY needs to release this on CD; it's so beautiful to listen to)
Beauty and the Beast
The Lion King

In no particular order:

The Little Mermaid

The Lion King

Hercules

PS

How come did I miss Aladdin? Because I think that basically by just listening to those 3 soundtracks you can get to picture the whole movie in your mind. And all their songs are awesome while there where few in Aladdin I didn't like.

In the case of Hercules all the songs are extremely catchy and the music only songs have the excelent heroic feel it wants to express.
