Snow White does not need a sequel!!

After Disney's poor quality sequels to Peter Pan, Cinderella, 101 Dalmatians and now I hear that Bambi is to have a sequel released next year!!
I hope and pray that they won't tarnish The Fairest One of All by turning it into some dreadful and witless copy as they have with all the others. I can just see it now at the climax of the original the Wicked Queen was dispatched by a bolt of lightning hitting the cliff top, in the sequel she'd grabbed onto a tree as she fell and lived to create more havoc, what a mess Disney have made of their once great name by releasing such tawdry copies!
Disney's strength of fluid animation and splendid characerisation has been demeaned by doing cheap rip offs of the originals!!
Please, please, please Disney don't do a sequel to the one that started it all. Walt Disney would be spinning in his grave!

Best Case Scenario: It ends up pretty good and the animation is done as well as its predecessor.
Worst Case Scenario: It'll be the one that "ended it all" and cause Disney to die...like, really die because so many people will be disgusted with it.
I actually thought the non-Disney sequel, Happily Ever After, was pretty good. Of course, they had the female dwarf counterparts (the Dwarfelles), which were probably the only good thing about it. The story could have been polished up though, it seemed rather contrived. And all those monster-ghoulish things at the castle...just another sign that in order to be the bad guy, you need ugly things. What kind of message does that send to kids? Ugly people are bad?

Well, first of all Walt Disney said that his films won't have sequels but since he died they change all that. I really don't think Snow White needs a sequel because hey the Queen is dead.
Look at The Little Mermaid, Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast sequels they all suck. If Disney wants to make a sequel don't copy the original movie or don't have it vice versa. If a Disney film has a happy ending just leave it like that.

I think there should be somewhat of a self-imposed statute of limitations when considering making sequels. After a certain number of years pass, there's no way you'll be able to remain faithful to the original in look. And as time passes, it becomes increasingly more difficult to remain faithful in spirit.
Look to the live action film world for some discouraging case studies. Few sequels have been made more than ten years after the previous installment. And from those that have, look how they often turn out: The Godfather Part III and Two Jakes.
And then you have Disney's sequels like The Jungle Book 2 and 101 Dalmatians II and Cinderella II. They are made more to capitalize on popular characters than to answer artistic loose ends. The basic allure of a sequel is being able to spend more time with characters you know and find compelling. But when the original characters are as historically distanced as say a film like Bambi, you're not really getting the same characters and you're certainly not getting the same filmmakers.
But it's not like our opinions will dissuade Disney from this practice. I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't care that Cinderella was made more than fifty years ago and find that Cinderella II is an enjoyable film. Maybe they don't even know the original and they enjoy the sequel. Or perhaps having a sequel will introduce them to the original film they never knew. Those seem like pretty benign and even positive effects from these profitable follow-ups.
And ultimately, I think it's very easy for us to distance a Walt Disney animated film from sixty years ago from a direct-to-video sequel being made by some animation division in some part of the world as we speak.

But what makes a classic...classic? Usually when I hear the word classic, I think of a movie that was made over 30 years ago, is still talked about today, and while sometimes can be dated, can be used to mirror society at any day and age.
So 40 years from now, a clunker like
The Black Cauldron (which I love dearly) might be considered classics to people.
And in a completely unrelated note, Luke, what was Two Jakes the sequel to?

What exactly is Disney going for? A sequel to every animated movie?

Well I believe some of the reasoning for the sequels is to preserve the trademarks or similar.
As for needing a sequel. Well, no it doesn't need one. But did Disney
need to make a well known fairytale into a film in the first place? Did Disney
need to make another version of Tarzan, when there's been numerous films and cartoons of the character before?
It doesn't need to be made, so don't watch it, if that's your opinion.

There are some Disney films where sequels worked better than others.
Please note: This is just my opinion of which sequels (despite how bad they were) worked.
Where sequels worked:
Lion King (it's all about the Circle of Life)
Aladdin (despite being a fairytale, it did a good job of incorporating other Arabian night's tales
Pocahontas (had the only sequel with an already existing story)
Fantasia
Where sequels didnt worked:
Beauty and the Beast (cleary taken for sucker with Enchanted Xmas)
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Cinderella
101 Dalmations
Lady and the Tramp (sequel had nothing to do with Lady and the Tramp)
I dunno...(your input)
Jungle Book 2
Peter Pan 2 (had a good idea, but didnt seem to offer anything new)
Other films where a sequel can work:
Fox and the Hound - But only to a certain extent and it probably wont be the same one as the one in production right now
Mulan - I have high hopes for the upcoming sequel
Lilo and Stitch
Tarzan (have lots of ideas they can take from the books, and that's only if Disney feels like blowing their money on it)
Alice in Wonderland (again with the royalties)
Other films where I dont see a sequel working:
Oliver & Company (ahh! NO!!!! The 80s are over!!!)
Snow White (nuf said)
I dunno:
Bambi
Dumbo
Okay that's just a rough list (dont take too seriously, I'm just pushing ideas into your brain)
I hear the plot for Snow White 2 is about Snow White's daughter Rose and Dopey going on a quest to save the other six who were captured by some villain.

It may not have anything to do with Lady and the Tramp, but Scamp was a long established Disney character, appearing in storybooks and comics for decades before Lady and the Tramp II was released.

"The One That Ended It All" is a classic quote. I love it! Made me laugh

Yet how sad would I be if it all ended.

Chinatown. I'm not surprised if you haven't heard of the sequel. There's pretty good reason.

LOL, yeah it would be sad if a Snow White Sequel would be the one that ended it all. Glad you got a laugh out of it, though.

Ah, thanks Luke. To be honest, I haven't even seen Chinatown, so I probably wouldn't have put 2 and 2 together.

They'll do it.
Know why?
People will buy whatever Disney puts out for sale because it's Disney.
So what if Aladdin, Beauty And The Beast, or The Lion King was altered ? It looks pretty.
Big deal if Cinderella 3 & Little Mermaid 3 are in animation. You already have the other 2 films.
Here comes Bambi 2. It'll make a nice gift for my kids or somebody else's.
That's why.
People just don't care enough about artistic merit to resist buying these video cassettes and dvds; and as long as their profitable, Disney will continue to make more of them.
Sorry if this seems like a bitter rant, but I feel let down by people that buy these things because it helps to lower the standard for quality entertainment.
Oh! I can't stand anymore!

I have no problem with a sequel as long as the animation is excellent and the story makes sense.

Wow that sucks..... Sounds like total crap to me. I think Snow White is the one story that maybe should not be tampered with. I mean if the plot is like you say it is that mean Dopey would have to tlak and I mean that kind of ruins his character unless on this quest Rose is just going to taslk to herself.

I dont think they'll make Dopey talk. He's such a popular icon that theyll know better than that but to give him such a huge role just hurts his character. I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff in there too (like another prince or something)
