It's so frustrating, I just read here on the site that "The Little Mermaid" is probably going to be released October 2006 :(

That's two years from now  Why is Disney doing this to us fans???
Don't they know how eagerly people are anticipating this DVD release?!

I do understand why of all the modern classics they decided to release this one last - 'cause it was already rereleased in 1997/8 - but 2006?!?!

Absolutely not fair.

I know that 2006 is a long time from now but we just have to wait.
Since Disney took out The Little Mermaid on DVD (Limited Issue) in 1999 it went in the vault for about 6 years so now we just have to wait for 2006.
This is everyone's favorite Disney classic.
I watch my VHS of Little Mermaid all the time. :D

....or you can buy the DVD. I obtained it for free with the release of Snow White with an offer from the Disney Store that was here in Puerto Rico.

Disney did not release ANY classics in 1997 or 1998 - in fact, they were very late entering the DVD market.

The first to be released in the US were in the FALL of 1999 and these (which included LITTLE MERMAID) were put on moratorium at the end of January 2000. It was originally announced that they would remain unavailable in the US for 10 years but, of course, soon after, R1 Gold Collection editions (from Canada) appeared for PINOCCHIO and MULAN - which was obviously frustrating for those who had paid $40 for their supposed "limited editions" just a few months earlier!

During 2000, LITTLE MERMAID was released in other regions around the world. The UK R2 edition was released in Mar 2000 and remained on catalogue until 2001.

So 2006 isn't that long to wait for a re-issue. It's certainly better than 2010!

I meant a re-release in general 'cause I don't even consider the Limited Edition a release, sorry. They should be ashamed of themselves for putting out such a horrible DVD line - grainy transfers, no extras, etc.

I always forget that "The Little Mermaid" was ever released on DVD. The platinum edition is gonna look so much better (obviously) and knowing how it'll be treated, the old DVD release just won't satisfy me :(

It sounds like you can't buy the DVD, so you prefer to critique it.

Not mind! I actually prefer the old anime version of the Little Mermaid. I'm happy to see that there going to start releasing Walt era films as Platinums again. I haven't bought a Platinum DVD since Snow White so I'm very happy.

Funny you say it, since money is rarely a probalem for me.

And still, I wouldn't waste even $10 on that crappy release.

The R1 "Limited Issue" release looks fine to me (the kids watched it 3x in a row yesterday!)

I also have the full-frame (P&S?) R2 edition of LITTLE MERMAID which has the Peter Andre song at the end! I rarely watch that one, though, as I prefer to stick to the widescreen releases for my widescreen telly.

I have the Little Mermaid Limited Issue DVD, and I think the video transfer looks great! Very vibrant colours, no complaints about it at all! I'm sure the Platinum edition DVD when released will have some sort of video transfer upgrade, but for now, I'm happy with the Limited Issue release.

I don't see why they just can't release 1 platinum per season. Why is it only fall and spring :x
i'd be so happy to see the little mermaid on dvd! and cinderella too, im glad thats coming in about a year! bambi will be nice but i dont think ill buy it, im interested in seeing the new transfer though :)
we'll just have to keep hoping!

I also would rather to have "The Little Mermaid" in March, but I think "Lady and the Tramp" screams even more for an anamorphic transfer, since that was a CinemaScope movie. As long as they keep giving us good quality releases, I can wait (though I admit it is hard).

Until then, let's keep our limited edition discs spinning!

I was extremely lucky to find a copy at a rental place in 2002. They wanted $25 bucks for it and by that point I already would have paid double.

Well, we've known for ages that Bambi and Cinderella would be the next two, so it hardly comes as any surprise that the next lot won't be until at least 2006. Ok, I have the previous LM disc, so I'm not as anxious as people who missed out, but really - Bambi and Cinderella haven't been released AT ALL, so I would have assumed there is more demand there anyways.

I don't see what the problem is. We knew all of this.

Jesus! We used to only get one a year!

And we've been so lucky this year: 2-discs for other OOP titles (Mulan, LK2); 2 Discs for classic titles (Mary Poppins); 2 Waves of Treasures and a whole of other 2-Discs internationally, slated for a 2005 release!

Unless you are made of money, I think 2 Plats per year are sufficient!

Well when you look at from a year point of view slowy Disney is relasing more and more 2 Disc-editions and from the sounds of it Disney has a packed year and with a few classics. And like someone said at least we are getting 2 now instead of one. :)

How much thought do you actually put into writing replys? Your complete stupidity just astounds me sometimes.

I completely agree. We should be thankful we're getting what we are, and even more thankful these sets actually sound likea lot of time was put into these sets; that they deserve the title of "Special Edition".

I really think the 2 Platinums w/ 2 SEs, and the Treasures wave is good as it is. Conder adding in other studios releases, you really do get enough per month/year. I really wouldn't want to have to throw down another 100$ to get two Treasures waves per year. And a Platinum per season would really just fill up the market too much and destroy the "specialness" of a PE (like DTV and WDFA). Considering each Platinum has been accompanied with a SE recently, and assuming that this continues, you will be at least getting 4 animated titles per year. Additionally, there's always catalogue releases to look forward to during summer.

Paul, that's not very nice. Not that "complete stupidity" is ever very nice, but MMP is an asset to the UD community. He brings us a lot of laughs and often contributes to discussion. Hooray MMP! :D

Everyone wants the "little mermaid" platinum edition now (myself included) but I understand, and is fair to other masterpieces like "Beauty and the beast", "Aladdin" and "lion king" to come first, since those movies just got released for the first time on DVD, That´s why Bambi and Cinderella are coming next year, TLM has a DVD already, if you missed it, sorry, but that´s the way it is.

So, in fact, the schedule I posted was correct (http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... php?t=5145).
