Thank you very much for the info netty. I had not yet upgraded to DVD from VHS but was considering doing so as the box sets dropped in price. Looks like I should wait. Any info on release schedules - how long will it take them to go through all the movies?

No idea when it will be out. I would guess now it will be after Christmas. Things often don't get any publicity or release notes until about 2-4 weeks before release over here. One of the reasons I check the BBFC site so often. Also given MGM's new ownership, any plans may now be shelved or amended.
The only other film showing at the moment is
FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE - VALUE ADDED MATERIAL
00:04:57:09 | IAN FLEMING AND RAYMOND CHANDLER
00:04:56:24 | IAN FLEMING ON DESERT ISLAND DISCS
00:07:22:07 | (IAN FLEMING CBC INTERVIEW)
00:01:22:15 | STORYBOARD SEQUENCE: THE BOAT CHASE
Obviously, if claiming to be ULTIMATE, there's a lot more to come for each film.

(Dr) Noooooooo!
I am one of those sad people who owns every Bond film, good or bad.
I don't know if I can bring myself to start replacing them.

I'll counter that, and praise Moonraker above Die Another Day with another two words: Richard Kiel.

Meh, I only own four Bond films: Goldfinger,The Man With The Golden Gun, The Living Daylights, and Goldeneye (the first three are VHS, the last was taped off the telly). I'm not really interested in the others, but I really liked Moonraker and Octopussy.
If the Goldfinger ultimate is worth it, I'll probably just get that on DVD, I can live with the others on VHS.

Loomis - thanks for the warning. I own it on DVD but have not had a chance to watch it. Can't seem to find two hours for a movie right now and watch shorter stuff.
As for Moonraker, I would put it near the bottom but I am still don't think it is bad.

that's one of the main problems with DVD, as soon as you get one edition a newer better edition is released. I already bought the last Bond DVD releases.

The effects were pretty dodgy though.
At one point, they push a 3 inch model of a sled off a cardboard cliff.
And one more thing: Madonna should be kept away from cinema. Forever.

Wow, JJJ, that's an interesting box-set.
What are all the Bond movies anyway? I never really got around to watching all of them (only saw probably 7, and own only 4)

Okay lets see how I do from memory
Firstly, there is Casino Royale(David Niven and Peter Sellers) and Never Say Never Again(a remake of Thunderball staring Sean Connery) which do not count toward the official MGM count.
1. Dr. No.
2. From Russia With Love
3. Goldfinger
4. Thunderball
5. You Only Live Twice
6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
7. Diamonds are Forever
8. Live and Let Die
9. Man with the Golden Gun
10.
11.The Spy who Loved Me
12.Moonraker
13 Octopussy
14 A View To A Kill
15 The Living Daylights
16 Licence To Kill
17 Goldeneye
18
19 The World is Not Enough
20 Die Another Day
Hmmm not bad. Missing a Roger Moore one and a Pierce Borsnan One.

Checked IMDB, JJJ, the Roger Moore one is "For Your Eyes Only" and the Pierce Brosnan one is "Tomorrow Never Dies".
Out of all the Bond films, I think I've only seen:
1. Dr. No.
2. From Russia With Love
3. Goldfinger
4. Thunderball
5. You Only Live Twice
6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
7. Diamonds are Forever
8. Live and Let Die
9. Man with the Golden Gun
10. The Spy who Loved Me
11. Moonraker
12. For Your Eyes Only
13. Octopussy
14. A View To A Kill
15. The Living Daylights
16. Licence To Kill
17. Goldeneye
18. Tomorrow Never Dies
19. The World is Not Enough
20. Die Another Day
I only own Goldfinger, Man with the Golden Gun, and Living Daylights. I taped Goldeneye off of Showtime or HBO during that free-weekend thing they used to do years back.
Also, what was Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again? Why were they made if they're not official Bond movies?

Well, Never Say Never Again I believe the original co-writer obtained the rights to the movie, which he later lost, both in court cases. However, the only movie he was able to make was Thunderball, so he remade it with Sean Connery(long after Connery had stopped being Bond). But he renamed it. The Never Say Never Again had more to do with Connery, as he had said he would never play Bond again, rather than having anything to do with the movie.
Casino Royale, was made either before the Bond films or in their infancies and was more comical than Bond was written. I think the Pink Panther movies took their inspiration from this one. Really the odd ball among the firms. As I recall, several people were parading around as James Bond, including Sellers and Woody Allen but Niven was the real one and in retirement. Things kind of came full circle when Roger Moore played Cousteau at the end of the last Pink Panther movie. So Closeau was Bond, and Bond was Closeau.

Before Dr. No there was a b/w TV version of Casino Royale made in the US. It wasn't very good, Bond was called "Jimmy" Bond.
The latter Niven/Sellers/etc Casino Royale color movie was released between Thunderball and You Only Live Twice if I recall correctly. The Casino Royale/Thunderball-(Never Say Never) novels movie rights don't belong to the UA/Broccolli/Saltzman camp so that's why they are "non-canonical" supposedly
Connery wasn't gonna do any more Bonds after You Only Live Twice so they had to look for a replacement, so maybe that's one reason Casino Royale may had come up with the idea of many Bonds but I think You Only Live Twice got delayed in post or something and Casino Royale got released earlier. After so many oficial Bonds through the years, with returning Connerys a couple of times Casino Royale doesnt seem that farfetched!
George Lazemby (On Her Majesties Secret Service's Bond) played him again as J.B. (I think he even drove an Aston Martin) in a cameo on The Return of the Man From U.N.C.L.E. tele-film giving Napoleon Solo a little help.
There was also a tele-film about Ian Fleming's "young" days played by Connery's son which is much like a Bond movie
And of course, theres the TRUE original Bond movies: Notorious, To Catch a Thief, and North By Northwest which I put inmediatly before my chronologically ordered Bond discs

Those are Bond movies? I only saw To Catch a Thief (well, the first half of it so far, haven't been able to watch the rest).
