I was watching LM 2: Return to the Sea yesterday, and I was wondering what everyone else thought of it.

When I originally saw it two (almost three) years ago, I had high hopes: the story seemed really good, and the animation seemed passable. And the opening scene with Ariel's lullaby to Melody was wonderful, and I thought that this would finally be the definitive DTV sequel. But as soon as Eric burst in with his weird new voice singing "darling we'd better be going/look at her isn't she glowing/she looks divine and you look excuisite, but look at the time/it couldn't be, is it?" I knew that this sequel was a letdown. The animation was just barely passable (why are Ariel and Eric so weird looking?), the voices were strange (they got Buddy Hackett and Rene Aubourjous (spelling?) back but not Christopher Daniel-Barnes?), and the characters had changed (Flounder's a father?????). Buried beneath all this was the potential for a good story. I think that the locket should have been the one Ursula wore around her neck (if they can give Ursula a sister with the same voice, they can make the necklace "unbroken") and they should have made Melody older, and more "emotionally mature" (enough with the giggling).
This one had so much potential, and although the story is somewhat good, I can't help thinking what they could have done.

What does everyone else think?

i hated the animation! and melody was annoying as scamp in lady and the tramp 2. the story was ok not all that great and sidekicks (penguin and the walrus) were just there i didnt see a point for them. just seem to be a repeat of Return of Jafar. trying to take revenge even though is not by the villain but the villain's sibbling in this one. i use to have the DVD cause it had merbabies silly symphony! but i wouldnt rebuy it unless it came as a packed special edition or disney pull a beauty and the beast boxset offer

eh. Not a great effort, but my daughter asks to watch it sometimes so I have learned to tolerate it.

Eh, I kinda liked it.
The animation was kinda weird, but like I could do better!
Bit of a rehash of the first one, but goddamn if I didn't have fun watching it

Enough said... BIG let down

The only ecception to my rule that states, a sequel should never be made to a movie the ends "Happily Ever After" although it probably wouldn't have mattered if this version never saw the light of day.

It's the truth! My friend bought it and when he opened it up, instead of a disc, there was dead squid and fish poo! He stunk for 8 weeks!

And EVEN worse: it got the all-important insert soggy!

I rented the Little Mermaid 2 on dvd I think 2 yrs ago? something like that anyway. Although the animation looks somewhat like the movie it is nowhere near the movie! The original animated movie made me fall in love with the film, the second one did not. Where are Ariel's sisters? Do we need to know that Ariel had a daughter? NO! We see them get married and sail on their wedding day, leave the rest to our imaginations! Also that nonsense about Ursulas sister, just so they can create another villain makes no sense to me. Also that stupid wall blocking the sea from the castle, give me a break there was no need for a wall okay! I believe once Ariel left the sea she could not be a mermaid or see her father again. I wish I never saw that stupid sequel, I promise you I won't be watching any others. That's my take on it. The original movie had a beautiful ending they should have left it alone.

Actually, there are certainly places where you can buy videos and DVDs that show you the process that led to the conception of Melody...and NOTHING is left to the imagination...

Hopefully, these will be restored in the R-rated Director's Cut of LIttle Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea. I believe this will be coming out to coincide with the release of the Platinum Little Mermaid and Hannibal's Magical World.

I believe with the appropriate Leonard Maltin introduction, there is no reason these can't appear on DVD for a mature audience to appreciate.

I'm sorry Loomis but I have to disagree with you here, the ending to Little Mermaid 2 to me was how do I put it ....corny as compared to the original. I do not want to know about Melody as she is not in the original movie. Think about Snow White and prince okay, when they go to the castle at the end of the movie, do we need to see their kids ....no. Same thing with Beauty and the Beast etc....Unless the original story is a trilogy...I just dont see the need for it. Just my opinion on it

i think ive seen that at the disney store, it was in a back room i thought it was the washroom but to my horro and virgin eyes they have a r rated cut to every disney movie o and teres a special access key u need to get to get the xxx rated version of the sequels which fill up alot of the briges very vivid dont need to see them i can use my imagination and tmy imagination has all the endings with happy bunnys and rainbows in addition to r rated material

lol loomis, no r rated LM2, no Lm2 period.

i didnt watch TLM2 because i heard TLM2 sux
i dont want to know after story of TLM
just think Ariel and Eric lived happily ever after
