The Emperor's New Groove: The Ultimate Groove

Form what I understand, like 30 million dollars worth of animation was scrapped, from the then titled Kingdom of/in the Sun. Is this animation anywhere to be found on the Collector's Edition of the New Groove? It was a completely different story approach that they had been working on for 2 years!
Anyway, I was wondering, because I was thinking, if I could find them for a decent price (under $40, if that's possible) I would like to have the collectors editions of ENG, A, and well Tarzan is too, expensive, so I will wait for a rerelease, but as far as I know, the other 2 are still in print. I hear wonderful things about the Atlantis Collectors, don't know what to expect there, but I did hear something about deleted scenes, and I have heard nothing about ENG, though...

No, nothing of the deleted material for TENG is availible on the Collector´s Disc - this is very sad, since I think that material should really be something to see.
And yes, there is a deleted intro-scene on the Atlantis disc.

It would be really interesting to see some of this animation (from TENG), because it did sound like a much more serious and quite frankly boring approach to the story.
I love the comedies, and the dramas too, but comedies have a kind of wacky fun about them that I really dig.
Still be interesting to see the 'serious' TENG.

If I recall correctly, there's a few pieces of Concept Artwork from the aborted Empire of the Sun on the Collectors' Edition. No character designs or animation though. They really don't make a big deal of it.

There's this independent documentary from like 2002 or so that covers the whole change from KotS to TENG, but we'll probably never see that unfortunately.

Emperor's New Groove: Standard or Collector's Edition?

I was at best buy earlier today and the 1-disc standard is going for $15 and the 2-disc collector's is going for $37. since the transfer of the actual film itself is the same, i don't know if the price difference is justified. Is the bonus material on the collector's edition worth the double price?

From what i've heard, the Two Disc set is much better, but try looking online before spending 37 dollars for it. If worse comes to worse, I'd rake out 37 moolah's on it, but thats just me. So, it depends. Are you going for a collection? Do you actually really like the movie? Etc. etc.

I have a feeling that most people are going to tell you to get the collector's edition.
I have the collector's edition and I love it. I can't remember much of what is on it or what makes me enjoy it so much at the moment, but I would recommend it.
I'm not sure of the price, though. It's probably close to what I paid for my copy, but then, it was over a year ago when I was just beginning my DVD collection.

I agree...look online before making the decision to buy the 2-disc set.
As a HUGE fan of
The Ultimate Groove I'm not even going to recommend the standard edition because this movie is fantastic and is a excellent Double-Disc set.
Of course, if you are the type that is not generally interested in all the extras that make up such a collection then definitely don't spend the extra $$. The movie itself is very enjoyable and you'll be happy with either disc.
As for Tangela's comments...take them with a grain of salt.
He's so blinded by a love of
The Rescuers I'm not sure he's capable of praising any other Disney film

I really like my 2-disc of The Emperor's New Groove, and I've actually listened to the commentary (something I can't say for some films) and watched all of the extras and found them enjoyable. That said, it's probably not worth paying more than double for the 2-disc set, unless it's one of your absolute favorites, which it most likely isn't if you haven't bought it already.
But as the others say, look online and see if you can find it cheaper.

You can get the Special Edition on Ebay for around 20-25 dollars.
I myself live in Norway so I took a search for this title in Australia. This would not make any sence since that is on the other side of the globe for me.
Australia is region 4, but for some reason most of the Australian Disney movies will also play in region 2 (europe). Amazingly it also contains a Norwegian sound track as well.
The best part is that most expencive movies are generaly 15 dollars cheaper in Australia then in Norway, so try and guess where I order mine.

And we have two versions of this out here as well...
Check out EzyDVD or AtlanticDVD if you want to take karlsen's advice. Both stores are having a Disney sale during October, so you might luck out...
I would recommend the Ultimate Groove, but that is mainly because I love the film. Very much my sense of humour. And the 2-disc set is one of the best around, with a minimum of fluff and actual features (no info about the abandoned ideas though). Still, more than can be said for certain *coughlionkingcough* releases.
However, if you just want to complete your collection of films, or you just want the film itself, save yourself some money and buy the standard release.

Even if it doesn't quite match the best Disney special editions - where are the 'Kingdon of the Sun' deleted scenes, concepts, songs, scripts...?! - "The Ultimate Groove" still is the one to go. It's a great edition with lots of material to make any fan happy.

Loomis, I found that both versions were out of print but Atlantic had the special edition in stock.
But it looks like the standard edition will return in Australia in a new package real soon.

Keep in mind that this comment is coming from someone who posts (and wastes bandwidth) simply to have a new label after their nickname and who thinks that The Rescuers is the best film that Disney has ever produced. Whatever.

First of all I never said The Rescuers was the best movie they ever made, I now it is really bad but I grew up with it and I love it. And I don't post only to gain post number, since I was on 199 I wanted to see what came after Gold Collection with 200, that's all.

I love THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE, specially the 2-cd DVD set. The extras are really good. Goofy at times, but it's a good set. disneymovieclub has it, also. You can find it for better than $39.95 on line. Also, check amazon.com + bn.com
