Is There A Way To Tell The Difference Between The Recalled Version And The Rerelease Version Without Actually Playing The Video,I Just Want To Know What Version I Have. I Don't Trust My Crappy VCR And I Dont Watch VHS Tapes Anymore,I Have The DVD.

well i have one of the Rescuers videos (1999 edition) that was released before they recalled the videos. i dont know about what the rerelease edition on video was like but i saw the movie on Toon Disney once earlier in 2004 and during that scene with the (you know what), it is just a close-up of Bernard and that is mostly it.

The 1999 Masterpiece Collection VHS Was Recalled Because It Contained An Obscene Image of A Woman That Was Inserted Into The Film,Mine Is Opened And I have Only Wached it Once But That Was Before I Knew About It. I Was Just Wondering If There Is Any Difference Betwwen The Packaging Or Something So i Could Find Out If Mine Is The Rare Version.

the packaging is the same for both the recalled edition and the rerelease edition. at first The Rescuers VHS was originally supposed to be released in November of 1998 (The Lion King II VHS of 1998 had a preview of the Rescuers VHS) but Disney pushed it back to January 1999. I remembered getting this movie because I had gotten two copies of the Spirit of Mickey VHS and returned one of them for the Rescuers when it first came out in January. I was only 8 years old then during that time of the recalled. Disney recalled the videos like 2 days after they re;leased it in January 1999. It was rereleased again in March 1999 on the same day that Mighty Joe Young was released on VHS. my guess about the difference between the two VHS copies are that the one from March of 1999 had updated cupons and different movie previews on it.
Jungleprince_55: tell us here about the previews that are on your VHS version of the movie. that way I could probably tell which version of the VHS you probably had.

Yes your copy is definitely the rerealesed one from March of 1999. the previews on the January 1999 video are:
Mulan
Sing A Song With Pooh Bear
101 Dalmatians
Frank and Ollie
The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit (Touchstone Film)
Wonderful World Of Disney ABC Promo
MouseWorks Cartoon Pluto Gets The Paper
so the copy you have is definitely the March 1999 rerelease version

(i think i will some day make a book or website that gives information about the Disney video releases)

Nudity is obscene? This is rather a strong statement. While the images were obviously never meant to be in this film, I hardly think it qualifies as obscenity.
-Lon (who apparently gets obscene daily just before showering)

but the recalled version from March 1999 only lets you see this during the scene:
sadly it will not appear for some odd reason

The Rescuers

Seller's comments: NUDE SCENE FOR COLLECTORS: Recalled version with nude woman photo. Will be sent with instructions on how to access nude scene.
Instructions? What does that involve other then press pause?
Meet a contact in the park? Use the code phrase "The chickens fly low this time of year" to identify yourself? Get a superfriends decoder ring to crack a secret message? The mind boggles.

Bah... if you
really want to see the two frames of film where the topless woman appears, just go here -
http://www.snopes.com/disney/films/rescuers.htm
- it also gives a full history of the event. I think it's pretty amusing, myself.
