Mon 8/23/2004 1:57p I recently met someone who works at the animation division that produces the direct-to-video sequels. When I heard where he worked, I immediately thought, "I'd better keep my mouth shut and be careful what I say!" Actually, as we chatted, he was the one who had negative things to say about the quality of these films. (He stays there because it is very hard to find work in animation right now.) He told me about the Bambi prequel, which I've known about for more than a year, as Alexander Gould (voice of Nemo) visited the LA NFFC chapter last year and mentioned that he would be voicing Bambi. The guy I was chatting with said the artwork for it is great, but he didn't feel the story worked. He also mentioned the Fox & the Hound sequel that someone mentioned in an earlier post. In addition, there is a Tarzan III and a Cinderella III (no kidding) in the works.

Bambi II sounds awesome. I really hope we get sequels to Pinocchio and Snow White soon too!

I for one really enjoy sequalls, sure they usally are far from the quality of the originals but it is nice to revisit the charecters that you are fond of from the originals and see them in a new story. I am looking forward to the Bambi sequall as well as any others they put out. For now these sequalls may be the main output of 2d animation from Disney.

:D Yay! At this rate Sleeping Beauty will be the only animated movie with no sequel! I don't think the Disney team could do it! I think Maleficent was scaled back in House of Villains because they had difficulty animating her! Well, that made me mad. :x

EXCELLENT!
Bring 'em on - Viva la 2D animation!

With the exception of Belle's Magical World & Cinderella 2 (which wasn't so much a sequel as a compilation of TV-length episodes), I've found most of the sequels to be quite enjoyable.

I still fail to see why anyone gets upset about these. If the originals are truly as great as everyone claims, then an inferior sequel is not going to anything to damage the original.

And it isn't as though this is Disney's ONLY output. It is a division of a division. As many people say on this forum, if you don't like 'em, don't watch 'em. Just don't whine about the decline of Disney animation and then go and buy/rent them anyways. And if you are going to whine, at least watch them first. I think many people will be pleasantly surprised.

I think if they simply put a little bit more thought (thinking is free) into the overall storyline and make the animation decent rather than awful than a sequel can be okay. Of course, I'm speaking in very broad generalities here . . .

Scary thing about that list is that they actually could do a decent sequel of Sword in The Stone with King Arthur and his knights.
