"The Pirates of the Caribbean" 3-disc set?

Now, this is odd. DVD Planet is pre-selling a 3-disc special edition of "Pirates of the Caribbean" slated for a November 2 release date.

Does anyone have any info on this?
As far as extras go, I'm very happy with the current edition and have no intention on double-dipping.

Ditto. I'm perfectly happy with my 2-disc set. And I don't watch the film too often anyways.

Personally I think it may just be a mistake, as I can't see Disney reissuing this at least until the sequel hits theaters.

I am happy with the 2 disc set and I don't think that there is a need for another release especially so soon.

Hmm... could be just a soundtrack?

I'm happy with the current ed, although I have to admit it irks me not to have the "best" edition possible of something.

I'm forever double dipping with Disney (and some other titles)...

Does anyone know why Disney would re-realses this movie as a 3 disc edition :? ?

Could possibly be a typo (but it doesn't really look like it, as it says "3-disc" twice).
Hmm... could be just a soundtrack?
There already is a soundtrack for this movie...

Yes, but its not uncommon for existing soundtracks to be bundled with DVDs. (Athough Disney US haven't done this to my knowledge, it happens quite a lot overseas).

I thought that the POTC 2 disc was fine! the only think that i would have liked better is if the 'pirates of the carribbean to the world of tomorrow' disneyland episode was complete! althought it is understandable that it wasn't because only part of the episode had a connection to the film. :(

I dunno about you but i could go for slightly better quality video. BV has a history of filtering some of their videos so much that they have some hazing and bluriness.

I wouldn't mind seeing a higher quality transfer to be honest with you. POTC was the first movie i ever saw several times in a theatre since i was a kid. Probably haven't seen a movie that many times since .....sheesh, Roger Rabbit maybe.

It's certainly got a huge college following. I can't tell you how many people quote that movie all the time.

I would love a 3-disc set done right, but I too agree that this is probably some re-packaging of the 2-disc set with the soundtrack included. I know that in the US, they do that with a lot of anime movies. Even though the soundtrack is sold seperatley, the few people who don't already own the movie and would also like the soundtrack would want this. But how many of them are really out there? I don't see that as a wise move for Disney if that is what they are doing. Don't they want to make money???

But what else could they put on? Surely the only thing missing is the trailer.

Another disc afflicted with no trailer. The modern curse.

This is a real thing. There's just no details yet but I wouldn't say that the only thing missing from the 2-disc version is the trailer.

Disney is seriously getting ridiculous w/ the doubledipping. It needs to stop. Their DVD selling method is an insult to the fans.

If nobody purchases this upcoming edition then it might send a loud, clear message to stop the double-dipping.

I've still got no clue about this one.

Hmm...it seems too early for a double dip promoting Pirates of the Caribbean II and III, as we won't see those until 2006 and like others have said the only thing missing from the 2-disc is the trailers. They could probably do an improved transfer of the movie though, but I don't see how that would take 3 discs. Echoing others, a combo 2-disc + soundtrack makes the most sense, but I have to wonder about it.

I do wonder though if they want to edit some or all of those deleted scenes into the film. Some would argue that it's already overlong, but I wouldn't, and I did like the deleted scenes -- some of them should have been left in, I thought -- , so maybe this is an extended cut of some kind??

Why should someone want to double dip so early and only for one DVD disc? I rather just wait for the Trilogy set of Pirates of the Caribbean. :D

There's still the possibility that there may be something mindbendingly wonderful about it.

Well, I can't say I'm really surprised about this, since other Bruckheimer films also got better editions down the line. What surprises me is that the original version was pretty strong on extras already, so the reasons for double-dipping aren't as strong.
I believe they are going to include a new video transfer for the film, since the original one leaves to be desired (though I don't think it is bad, like some people say) and maybe an extended cut of the film.

What intrigues me the most is that Disney took so long to announce it. That's what I call a surprise release.
