I desperately want the Ultimate Toy Box, but I'm suspecting that Disney would release another version of the Toy Story films next year (the first film's 10th anniversary) or when Toy Story 3 comes out. Should I get the 4-year-old box set right now or wait for a newer edition? Does anybody have suggestions?...

I don't have the ultimate toy box, but the toy story two pack. If you don't want to spend quite as much, but enjoy the movies this is a great set. I love having those movies, especially now that my son is getting old enough to enjoy them. I would definately recomend getting some form of those two movies.

I recently got the box on ebay for $60, it is very good, its got everything you would want to know about the movies. Its still not as good as the Fantasia ANthology.

Yes, you should get it! I quote one of this site's reviewers who says,

Though it is now out of print, you'd be doing yourself a great disservice by passing up this unsurpassed 3-disc set.

The moratorium is supposed to be five years, and it just went out of print in 2003, so we're looking at 2008 if Disney sticks to their plan. It will just go up in price, so now is the time to get it, or you'll just regret not having it:

Nothing much to add except that if you want the set, don't hesitate. We (almost) certainly won't see a "new" edition before a new format comes along, and the set that is out now is definitive.

A proud addition to any collection, get it before it disappears or goes up to silly prices on eBay.

Make sure you ask qustions before buying, tons of imports on the net. Just be careful and you'll get what you want.

The R2 version is back in print.... available at amazon.co.uk and sendit.com.... you might wanna get this instead of paying the ridiculous ebay prices....

also check out dvdcompare as some extras are available on the R2 set and not on the R1 (but the R1 has other extras not on the R2)

I definitely agree...get it now! Since it is out of print, you will have to wait a LONG time before Disney re-releases it, if they decide to do that.
The Ultimate Toy Box is just that, the ultimate collection to have for all fans of Toy Story.

Thanks for your kind suggestions. But a minimum price of $80 at Amazon is jaw-dropping! And Ebay seems not too reliable... I might as well try my luck and find it in some DVD stores...

I have the two-pack, but I want to rebuy the films again after reading extremely positive reviews of the Ultimate Toy Box across the net.

Thats probably not gonna happen. Ebay isn't bad if you ask qustions before bidding. Just make sure you ask the right ones like:

-is an officia R1 USA release, no bootleg/import?
-are the 3 dvds in a shiny silver box w/ a transparent slicover over it?

stuff like that

Yes, if you can afford to buy it I would pick it up in a minnute. But it is out of print, and will get more and more expensive. And beware of Oriental Bootlegs. Right now on E-Bay, you can get a bootleg for $29.99 Buy It Now. So Beware of those. But Origionals are really pricey.

I realize this is an old thread, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere else. Ignoring the extras, how's the video/audio quality of the two-pack to the Ultimate Toy Box. I found a TS 2 pack at a local Gamestop, and they're holding it for me, but the quality is like some of the other early disney discs, I might pass it up. Did they use the same transfer for the UTB? Any help would be appreciated.

Just before wene they went out of print I shelled out 80 bucks for that set and it was worth every penny. sooo...YES BUY IT!

It's worth it. I love both movies. Plus the 3rd dvd is all extra's.

I'd think, when released again it will be the same as before.

After all, it seems this set has everything regarding these movies. And besides, Disney did it with A Bug's Life.

aggietubagod I think since the transfers were from rendered computer files they might be the same quality or very similar, so the main difference would be the supplements and formatting variations (like soundtracks or 4:3 vs 16:9 versions if any) so check on that. I don't have the toy box in DVD but I have the much earlier delux box Toy Story Laserdisc with goads of supplements and that looked pretty impresive for its day. You could always get the 2pack and watch the movies and decide later if you want more supplements while you find that ultimate toy box...

Ah just kidding. I've been considering getting it too for the longest time but I may hold off for a re-release. It'll eventually arrive... I hope.
