I just rented Hellboy last night and after I watched the movie I was going thru some of the bonus features and found that under the "Hellboy reccomends section includes four UPA cartoons from Columbia's archives on Disc One of the set (listed as "recommended by Hellboy"), including the original Gerald McBoing-Boing from 1950, How Now Boing Boing and Gerald McBoing-Boing on Planet Moo. It also includes the classic Poe-inspired cartoon short, The Telltale Heart. I watched parts of them they all seemed kind of interesting but by the time the movie was over I was having to try real hard to keep my eyes open so I dozed off in each of them but will give them a try again tonight.

got them on Tuesday. That was the only reason I bought the discs!

I bought Hellboy on Tuesday but haven't seen the DVD yet because of my summer school studies but will try to watch it this weekend.

Is Hellboy worth picking up? I never cared for the comic so that's why I never saw the movie. But the extras seem astounding.

Interesting Disney note, Mike Mignola the creator of Hellboy, I believe worked on the character designs fro Atlantis the Lost Empire. But I'm sure everyone knew that.

I would definately rent it first. I never cared for the comic either, but I saw the film in theaters. It does a great job of adapting the comic to the big screen, but if you aren't into the source material, I don't see how you'll be into the movie.

That's where I originally heard of Hellboy, actually. The Atlantis crew took huge inspiration from Mignola's style - they pretty much lifted it, in fact. And being the "squeaky-clean" Disney crew that they were, they jokingly referred to it as "Heckboy."

I may rent the 2-discer, but I'd prefer to hold out for the 3-discer coming in November. It's a "Director's Cut" with 20 minutes more footage and several more extras. I think there's also a mini-bust included... I'm usually not into comic book films (I scoff at at Spider-Man... ), but I found this film thoroughly entertaining. I think it may be Hellboy's extremely cynical attitude that I can relate to.
