first run Disney shorts and their accompanying theatrical features?

Like which animated short was shown before which film upon release as well as their theatrical re-issues?

I'm basically wondering if there's a comprehensive listing of every single Disney animated short paired with it's accompanying film, followed by the year of it's theatrical release and even re-issue?

I don't know of an online source, but Leonard Maltin's book, The Disney Films, has an index in the back, with everything in release date order, including the television shows. I have an older edition. You can buy it pretty cheaply here:

i'm not sure if there is a chronlogical resourse for what you are looking for. you have to remember that different theaters would show different shorts. no two theaters were the same when they showed animated shorts. also remember that:
1. Disney had to show his animated shorts in front of other films from different studios in the 1930s and 1940s.
2. also not only were Disney shorts were shown in theaters but also cartoons from Warner Brothers and a couple cartoons like Tom and Jerry and Popeye.

They did show specific shorts with each movie. They have even put the exact same cartoon shorts at the beginning of several of the special edition DVDs that played with them in the theaters, like Pollyanna, Parent Trap, etc. The Ugly Dachshund played in the theaters with Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, as seen on this poster:<p><img border="0" src="http://www.geocities.com/disney_laserdi ... uglyd.jpeg" width="362" height="550"></p>And Disney shorts were ONLY shown with Disney movies, Warner Brothers shorts only with WB movies, Popeye only with Paramount movies. They didn't mix and match.

so how did Disney show their cartoons before the releases of Snow White in 1937. Disney couldnt just release animated shorts by themselves. it must have had to be released in front of a movie from another company.

I think they were released with Columbia movies. I'm not sure on that though.

you're probably right there re77. the only way to actually know is to talk to someone who is really old and had went to the movies alot when he was young.

As pointed out already, this seems very unlikely. I think it's even fair to say that Disney didn't really have what could be considered a wide range of feature films in the theaters until the 1950s. By then most of the shorts had already been made.

well I would assume that since Disney films up until 1947 were distributed exclusively through RKO, the studio would have paired their animated shorts with other features under the same distro. As mvealf mentioned, all Disney shorts were certainly coupled with specific features upon first release, and premiered as such nationwide.

I was curious however, if there was some sort of online resource, which would not only have listings of that corresponding format... but also all associated feature length films - specifically the Disney animated classics - upon re-issue. For instance, Fantasia was reissued theatrically in 1946, and than again 10 years later in 1956 and I believe at least once each subsequent decade as with most of Disney's popular animated feature length titles. I'm not sure if Fantasia was specifically paired with a Disney produced short from it's original release, if even than, (Bill Posters, The Riveter, Volunteeer Worker, etc) - but certainly I recall viewing similair shorts with classic titles reissued in my generation such as Snow White, Cinderella, Bambi, etc and even newer productions like The Black Cauldron & Oliver & Company... It's possible that such might have varied between different theatres in each town, state, etc. but it would be really interesting if a comprehensive list of each title short and feature film existed...

perhaps a forthcoming project in the works for this site?

I'm not sure that one exists now, but in a few days I can have a list of all the shorts on my site. After I finish the television programming page, I'll get right to work on the shorts. It takes a lot of time to type them all in, so it may take a day or two but since you want it, I'll do it. But I will only have the shorts, not the accompanying films.

Thanks Josh, there are already many resources for the shorts though - Imbd, Bcdb, (Toonzone hosted) Encylopedia Of Dissey Animated Shorts, etc.

I'm really interested in seeing which films they were accompanied with upon various release. Seems like a good idea if anyone has the time information and resource, seeing as nothing of the sort is currently available...

The Disney Shorts were very popular. They were used as cartoons before the Disney Movies each one of the Old Disney's Had Them. They were very popular in their time but now having a cartoon before the movie isn't that popular. I mean my parents still remember when you could go to the movies and you wuld get to see a Cartoon, a NewsReel, the Movie + a Serial.
