I'm Going to Comic -Con, Any tips?

My brother and I are going to comic-con next week, for the very first time, and I was hoping someone might be able to give me some helpful tips and answer a few questions. I know they give away stuff. What kind of stuff? Posters and that sort of thing? I'd be intersted in Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter sorts of things. Are these usually featured?
And finally there is a particular program featuring a preview for the Extended Edition of Return of the King that I would really like to see. Do you usually have to get a seat quite early for that type of thing?
Thanks to anyone who might be able to give me some info.

Marianne :)

Look out for middle aged men dressed as:
1) Klingons
2) Elves
3) Wolverine or any of the X-men*

*This has a personal tragic story attatched.

Hey Marianne,

This will be my 4th SDCC (San Diego Comic Con), and my second as a photographer for www.toymania.com First, here's some very basic advice:
1. Wear comforatable shoes, this cannot be stressed enough, you'll be doing a lot of walking. The convention center is enormous, and there's a whole lot to look at.
2. Make a quick budget, you'll see a lot of fantastic things, and money goes quick if you're not careful. Plan food before hand by either bringing a lunch, or searching for an affordable place to eat.
3. If you can, get to the convention center early, there are alway long lines for both buying tickets, and waiting to get it.

Now as far as free stuff goes, there's lots!!!! When you register you'll be invited to walk around a large table full of freebies, from cheap paper leaflets, to nice t-shirts, and everything in between. Movie posters for summer blockbusters are very common freebies, but they go quick. Also, when you're walking the convention floor keep your eyes peeled for booths giving stuff away, or people walking around handing things out, always be sure to peer into large crowds and see what's going on. Last year I got free action figures like mad, people just handing them out. Lastly enter every singe contest drawing you can, lots of fun, and your chances are just as good as anyone elses.

As far as the LOTR EE preview, first find out where, what time, and what day it's at, and second be prepared to wait. Screenings such as this are always extremely popular, and there's only so much seating. My advice would be to check near the area where it's showing about 3 hours before the start to see if a line is developing, then if nothing is there check an hour later etc. Once a line starts, jump in, it's going to get long!

Most importantly HAVE A BLAST.

Hopefully I'll have some pics of cool Disney stuff to share with you all upon my return.

Hope this helped!

2 Kewl - I'm going to the Comic-Con as well. It's an awesome show with plenty to see.

I'm not up on most of the programming at the moment, but if you are at all a Star Wars fan, I suggest going to the Fan Film Awards. For anyone who enjoys the movie, the show is a heck of a lot of fun.

Other than that, just make sure to check out all the programming and pick out the stuff you like in advance. It helps to get a good schedule down, so you won't miss things. Also, be prepared to wait in line for pretty much everything. Bring some music or some reading to keep you occupied.

Have an awesome time! I know I will!

I have a tip. Have nothing to do with the new Marvel 2099 comics. Don't even look at any publicity for them. :x

Apart from that have a good time! Comic Cons are more than just comic now - they're multi-media, so be sure to check out as many panels as you can. Cartoons, DVDs, Films. All are fair game.

Oh, and take lots of money!

 And you clearly see that he has packed his own lunch as well.

If those guys represent the inside of a computer, then he must have been inside the one I just threw out...

I have one last question.

Is there ever Harry Potter stuff at Comic-Con?
Thanks. :D

I would say that Harry Potter could be considered "genre" material and therefore if you are thorough in perusing the dealer area you will probably find some stuff ...

Which brings me to my pointer for you - don't be afraid to bargain with dealers if you don't like the initial asking price for an item - many are willing to bargain with you, especially on the last day.

HAVE FUN!! :)

Stay at least five feet away from anybody remotely resembling a Klingon.
