Terminator 4 Script News

Screenwriter John Brancato told SCI FI Wire that he and partner Michael Ferris have turned in a draft of a script for a proposed fourth Terminator movie—one that works around the expected absence of previous Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is now the governor of California. "We did have to think about a new franchise character, [because] he couldn't carry the movies anymore," Brancato said in an interview. "That caused us to have a pretty novel approach to what a new terminator would be like. What directions would it go in? There will be a new robot on the set of Terminator 4."
Brancato and Ferris wrote the screenplay for the last installment, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, which was directed by Jonathan Mostow. Brancato said that Mostow is involved in development of the fourth movie, but added, "We'll see if it winds up being him as director. If it does come to life—and everything's up in the air—it might come out in about a year and a half to two years."
Producers have suggested that the series could continue through a fifth film. But the writers have not worked that far ahead. "Five, I don't want to think about," Brancato said.
Though I really consider the series to be over with T2, T3 was a decent summer action flick and could've been worse, so I'll probably see a fourth. However, I don't like this "new franchise character" stuff. The machienes have already risen, they don't need to have a new terminator. It's John's story now, and T4 is the time for John to live up to his reputation as the savior of mankind. Then at the end of T4 they send back Arnold in a brief cameo, and Kyle Reese, and it loops back to the first movie.
We'll see....

There needs to be a 4th film- things weren't fully resolved in the third, that much is obvious. Fortunately, Arnold's character isn't a character at all, he's a model number. He won't have to be replaced by a new actor, he can be replaced by a new model. But no one will like that. Arnold and the Terminator are inseparably associated with one another.
I know he probably can't take the time out for a full movie. But how much does he really need to be in it? Maybe a few scenes, particularly in the end (he MUST be in the end scene). Like Jake said, they can get him to do just enough to make the film work. The story has obviously shifted its focus on to John, as it should have. Of course, the Terminator has to be in The Terminator. Therefore, that's the only possible way to resolve it.
A new franchise character? A 5th movie? No way. That will be dragging it out (if you can drag out what will be a nearly 30 year old franchise). There are still some issues to resolve- but not many. Enough for one movie, that's it.
Oh, and for the record, I loved the 3rd- even more than the first. The 2nd remains supreme, though.

To me, there wouldn't have been anything that needed resolution had they not made the 3rd film.
I was quite happy to see the series end on a high note, after the first two James Cameron fillms.

Here's my pitch for T4:
Somewhere in the future a new Terminator returns to 2003, destroying all copies of T3 before they can be distributed to theaters.
What a godsend that would be!

Thus negating T4 and there would be a temporal paradox!
I don't think that T3 was a BAD film. In fact, I quite enjoyed it.
It just wasn't necessary (nor was T2 when you think about it, but T2 was cool), and a T4 is even less necessary. Plus it screwed a little with continuity.

How'd it screw with continuity? I'm not disagreeing, I'm just curious.
And yeah, I agree that T3 wasn't needed. But there was, however, room for it. The plot allowed for expansion. I even think T3 added a lot, and didn't feel like an addition so much as a continuation (and that's what sequels should strive for). It also served to open the door for T4.
After T4, though, I highly doubt there will be room for a 5th one, and it definitely won't be needed. I fear it'll venture off into an 'Adventures of the Terminators' type thing.

Wouldn't it feel odd watching a movie about Terminating machines that come to California sent from the future to destroy mankind looking like the current Governor of the place?
Watching the Last Action Hero and Demolition Man now is a mind boggling experience too
That Central Computer is trying to alter the timeline with alternate tactics
btw I watched T3 in Los Angeles and it felt odd watching a movie with streets that looked just like the streets i had just driven by.
with Terminators

I can't wait for Terminator 4!!!
But they should take out T4 and T5 as soon as possible not like they did with T2 or T3 taking out the films a very long time.
I see the point with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Anyway it's Kate's and John's story not the T-100.
Hasta La Vista Baby!!!!!

i dont think the world needs a Terminator 4. if Arnold Schwarzenegger isnt in it, then forget about it.
