The hard-nosed back-and-forth apparently paid off. In May, Variety's DVD Exclusive publication estimated that since the DVD and video were released March 30 they had generated $146 million in the United States, far outstripping the $85 million the film made in theaters. Overseas sales have also been robust, and next week Rutt, Tuke and pals begin recording "Brother Bear 2."

So there you go. I wonder if the original will get a re-release when the sequel comes out (likely to be DTV). Then we may get a slip-cover!

I think this time, Koda should be transformed into a human!

Well, I guess they are thinking "If Shrek can do it, so can we!". But I highly doubt it's going to be a succes... I REALLY wonder what the story is going to be. I mean, what can they do? They will probably get Rutt and Tuke back but with other voices and a new cute bear that will replace Koda? Hm actually they can't remove Koda from the story because in some countries the title has "Koda" in it. Interesting....

I'm not really sure about a sequel but the fact that the Rutt and Tuke voice actors return is a BIG plus! Maybe a deluxe edition of the original with some REAL extras and a more clear transfer would be welcome. From pictures posted recently here on the forum I noticed some stripes across the film, color changes or something. I doubt we'll actually see one, but the first dvd leaves much to be desired. Then again, this film made at least as much money as Lilo and Stitch (of wich a 2-disc treatment is on the way) Let's cross our fingers Thanks for posting!

that's the only reason why the sequel's being made: for more Rutt and Tuke (my opinion anyway)

It's kinda hard to think about this sequel being made without good old Florida

Now replace 'death' with 'poor storyline', 'success' with 'money loss' and you get Brother Bear 2. What are they thinking!? Brother Bear II?! What is that crap?! The first movie wasn't exactly a "rave hit", and now they're already on a sequel. I can see the "midquel" or "behind-the-scenes-quel" working for BB, but not the TLM II; the son/daughter does the same thing with a relative of the dead evil-doer. There's not much to work with here guys! I'm not going to judge it before I see it, but I truthfully can't see this doing very good.

I'm excited about it. Brother Bear is a brand new movie that gained a much bigger following on video than in the movies, which means that even though initial returns were lower than expected, interest for a franchise has now been established! The same thing happened with Austin Powers.

I'm not sure I understand the hesitancy here. A lot of times, people resent Disney sequels because they tamper with a classic, but this is quite obviously the work of the current Disney. I can understand concerns over the animation, though (I share them). 2-D animation isn't Disney's strong-suit now, and the people who drew the film have been axed.

I believe proper marketing could render this a box office success if they released it theatrically. But would Disney really release another traditionally-animated feature to theaters? I'd like to believe that- but I can't.

So the only reason to worry about Brother Bear 2 is that it might get shafted and delivered to a sub-par animation unit- but we don't yet know that for sure. Besides, this is going to be a traditionally animated project- we want that, right? If we protest Disney's '2-D' efforts, then they'll never have any chance of resurfacing. Who knows? Now that BB can officially be labeled a recent '2-D' success, maybe another BB hit would change some minds in Eisnerland?

Oh, and the only reason TLK 1.5 worked so well was because it was such a widely-loved movie. No one's really interested in parodying not-so-classic films, so I just don't see it working for anything since TLK.

Okay well I really wasnt expecting to hear that there wwas going to be a sequal to Brother Bear. I mean I have no clue what the plot is going to be but I will admit Disney has defintley grasped my attention. (Is it going to be in movie theaters?)Or 3-D ? If these questions were asked my bad.

I have to say, although I enjoyed BB (despite my initial reluctance to see it), I don't see a sequel.

I really enjoyed Brother Bear and feel that it was a great Disney film, but I'm not sure about a sequel. If they take Rutt and Tuke and set them out on their own UNIQUE adventure, that would be okay. Just as long as the story is different and interesting... I will withold judgement of this release until we have more information.

Do you think Phil Collins will do the music again? I doubt it. But that's what REALLY attracted me to Brother Bear and Tarzan. (Side note: Phil Collins could have done WONDERS with the already great movie Finding Nemo) I just hope they don't ruin it, sometimes Disney gets ahead of themselves and just produces another movie. Ya kno? I'm probably gonna get stabbed for saying that here but still. Like did we REALLY need a Cinderella 2? Yea I own it, but still, it sort of ruins the first one. Same with all the new Beauty and the Beast variations, sort of ruins the "classic" for me. And The little mermaid 2? Granted the Aladdin series WAS wonderful and I own them all. I guess, idk. I hope they keep Rutt and tuke the voices the same or it would be weird. Same with the rest of the characters.

Wow see now thats a good idea the movie can be about Rutt and Tuke and Keni and Koda can be a part of it but the movie is mainly about those two with a totlay different plot. That I could see with major possablities I like the way you think. VERY COOL!!!

I think this will be great it was a great movie and I can't wait to see the sequel.

I think this sequel it's totally unnecesary. I don't find interesting to see what happened before or after the original story, who cares? Also I didn't like the moose, I don't think they're funny. But I like they design.

Disney should invest money on making ALL NEW feature films and no insulse and stupids sequels.
