Neither!
Join the protest.
Both of these titles have been edited by Disney to remove those things which are now considered "bad" by today's standards.
To read more info on these edits go here:

I might be considered nit-picky for avoiding these titles for this reason, but I firmly believe all movies should be presented in their original version without censorship.

However, if you still want to get them...I don't know :)

yes, I know... I am a huge widescreen freak also. But since these are the only versions of the film that they have realeased and probably will only release... Thats why I want to get them. I despise Full-Screen, but this is my only choice...

It is not just the widescreen though (they are actually presented in the OAR, as widescreen was not really happening in the 1940s).
BUT they have actually edited out things, in the case of the Make Mine Music it was a whole section (Martins and the Coys), it also has clevage edited out.
Cigarettes have been removed from Meldoy Time.
I just think that Disney needs to be sent a message that these cuts are unacceptable, then maybe we will see proper versions of them released on DVD.
Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now...

To my knowledge, Saludos Amigos is edited, and there are some parts in Fantasia edited out (which in the case of the latter, I didn't care too much about because I'm a hypocrite :))

That link I posted above should have more info if you want.
And the complete list of animated movies on this site has notes on whether the film has been edited in some way too.

Hope I've helped...

From the FAQ page:

What
Disney movies are edited for DVD?
Make Mine Music has a scene (&The Martins and the Coys&) removed. Segments of Melody Time and Saludos Amigos have been edited to remove cigarettes. Lastly, while the Fantasia DVD releases preserve the full Roadshow cut, a few brief segments of the &Pastoral Symphony& sequence have been zoomed and digitally edited. For more specifics, Widescreen.org has an article here (rant warning!).

Also worth mentioning is that Fantasia was edited for the 60's release and has been that way ever since. It is very unlikely they will ever release it without those changes. I would love to get my hands on a copy of it though!

It's worth noting both "Melody Time" and "Make Mine Music" are coming out in the UK soon (no annoucement but the supplements have been put through the BBFC - an organisation like the American MPAA which must classify all video content for home release).

There is a chance that they will be released in the UK unedited. But, I'll admit it's only a very slim chance.

I haven't seen either of the movies so I can't vote. Of course, with all the changing Disney has done to it, I don't think it would be worth what the prices are (I wouldn't mind seeing them though, just to say i have seen them). I haven't even seen them at Best Buy (with prices way to expensive anyway).

anyone think that Wal*mart will carry them? they had Fun and Fancy Free a while back?

I'm staying clear of Saludos, Melody, and Make, so I doubt I will ever see them until uncut versions are released.

However, for Fantasia, I could not resist the wonderful 3-Disc set that came out. That was awesome.

What's with the bumping of a two-year-old thread?

This thread is old? Might as well say this...

I know these are edited but I still think people should check them out even if you rent them. You may enjoy what is not edited and you may really like the movie and then you can join the good fight and demand that Disney release it unedited. :)

It would be a shame if these were forgotten and by viewing them you atleast get to see some of it.

I didn't ant to buy them edited but I did because what is not edited still is great entertainment. :)
